Weather Program
« on: June 20, 2019, 12:35:06 AM »
Not sure this is the correct place to put this, but...

I'm in search of a weather map provider that you can a) place the map(s) easily into your web site with a simple url and b) a suite of maps / graphics to use in a new TV News program.

I'm having no luck with the folks at "Pivitol Weather" getting back to me, Aeries is not quite what I need. And WSI is out of our budget. If you have any suggestions please get ahold of me. Thanks.

Check out this WPC page.
Maybe it's something you could use.

They would, but it is NOT a non-profit station I'll be doing weather for. It is a profit. So I don't want to get into any issues with the USGovt. !!!

Why can't you use publically available data for profit?
Look at all the websites that use model data, radar data, sat data etc etc. It's all the same stuff just with different graphics.
I'm only asking because I don't know.

GR3 took all that WSR88D data and repackaged it and made a killing.
Weatherbell Analytics took all the GFS, NAM, and HRRR data and applied their own graphics
And resold it.
Unless there is something here I am missing I don't see an issue.

And how do you now know they did not acquire licensing or permission from NOAA?

I may be completely out in left field, but what about FOIA?

That's a good question.
Does anyone have an answer?

Neither the name nor visual identifier may be used, however, in a manner that implies an endorsement or affiliation with NOAA/NWS.

Before using information obtained from any NWS Web page special attention should be given to the date and time of the data and products being displayed.

And that answer's that though I am not sure that includes commercial. I know I seen lots of apps keeping the name "NOAA" in the apps.

Thanks weatherhost. Good find.
Says nothing about commercial use so I    would assume it's ok.
