10 Years Of Weather Data Keeping Finally Done
« on: January 01, 2011, 11:18:33 AM »
New Years Eve yesterday ended 10 years of weather keeping for my self. My parents got me a weather diary for christmas one year when I was 14 to write down daily observations and data since I love weather and any thing that as to do with it. I used my weather station at home here every day for the data. I've seen and recorded some crazy stuff over the years. I plan to record the numbers in a data base and graph them all. I have the first 5 years written down in excel and plan to do the next 5 some time soon. I could keep going for another 10 but I think the amount I've done is good enough for me. Happy New Year To All.
Thanks.

I would have killed to have a weather station when I was a kid.  The most extreme temperatures I ever experienced occurred when I was 13 and 14 years old.

No need to stop recording now.  It's fun to go back months or years earlier and look at the numbers.  :-)

They didn't have PWS's back when I was growing up. They didn't even have pc's when I was growing up!

That is is a good run. Why stop,  you must have a streamlined process by now.

CONGRATULATIONS! That is quite an accomplishment. If you really enjoy collecting data, then why stop? But if you find it getting in your way in life, then set it aside... Either way, you have done something that most haven't 8-)

The closest thing to a PC we had when I was young was an etch-a-sketch!

That is a huge accomplishment. I once wrote down weather observations (based on a Wunderground station about three blocks away) in home-made diary (lined paper that had been pre-scored and put in a three-ring binder).

One day I'll set up a computer and a more expensive weather station with a PC connection to do the job for me...hahaha.

My Parents got me The Weather Wizards 5-Year Weather Diary. Not sure of any one has herd of it. It is an ok diary but not great. It comes with a few tit bits about weather and does not give you much room to write stuff but it did the job for 10 years.
Thanks.

10 years of weather watching, starting at 14, wow, I stand in your shadow although I am close to 40 years older then you.  Congratulations on your accomplishment.   It does look like you are committed to gathering data about the weather, and although you mention you might stop I wonder how you can with all that equipment.

Either way you should be proud of yourself

btw, what type of work do you do?  just curious

I am writing data off of the NWS Charleston this year, and I am looking for weather stations in my area to keep stats...I'll be almost 27 before I beat you....I guarantee you I wont go that long, but I will go at least until college 8-)

I started when I was 12, kept it up until I was 19. And then continued for another eight months after that. Then stopped…with 4 months left to go before the big two-zero hits me. (Oh noes).

After college I'll probably kick it back up again...
