"Drive by" complaints and accusations
« on: July 25, 2010, 03:52:23 PM »
I just got an e-mail about something someone didn't like about one of my sites.  They didn't like it so much they said they wouldn't send data.  I can live with that.  If they don't like what they see so much they don't want to be served by our programs that's OK.

What really irks me is when they lob complaints and accusations about character without knowing anything about a person due to ONE thing they saw AND in a way that makes it difficult to respond.  They went to the trouble of making the return e-mail address the same as the send address.  Of course it didn't work... I know how to find the real sender.  #-o

I give no credence to an accusation when the person isn't willing to provide a means to respond to it.  It is cowardly.  They said I couldn't be "... swayed by the opinions/feelings/thoughts of others."  Making accusations and complaints while trying to hide is very clear that they have no interest in even discussing the opinions, feelings or thoughts of others.

So if someone has something to say about ANY web site at least have enough of a spine to defend your statement by giving a way for them to respond.  And if someone is going to make a character accusation, find out at least a little about the person first... it just makes you look more informed and intelligent.

OK... I'm done ranting.  Thank you.  :D

maybe consider changing the title of this thread a bit?
because at first I thought someone had accused your site of having a drive by virus download or similar....

Don't worry about it Joe. The world overfloweth with idiots sometimes.
Also, these same people don't deserve a response. It feeds their ego even more.
Just let it go.

Thanks for sharing the info, Joe.  I've had a few myself over the years, and just let 'em wash by like flotsam in a minor flood.

I'm appalled at the diminishing civility and basic human courtesy that seems to be happening.  What with 'angry people' on the airwaves and blogs all screaming righteous indignation at some perceived flaw in someone else, the whole tenor of the 'conversations' has turned rancid .. I just tune it out.  Thankfully, this forum is home to a courteous and respectful group of weather enthusiasts who keep the discussions informative AND respectful of others.

Best regards,
Ken

I send people here often for help due to the positive nature of this forum.  I'm glad to say I didn't find the person amongst our membership.

Unfortunately people do feel more free to say things on the Internet they wouldn't say to a person face-to-face, or even over the phone.

Such is life.

I'm appalled at the diminishing civility and basic human courtesy that seems to be happening.

Beside the basic "I-Me-Me-Mine" nature of society that we've bred over the decades, I think a lot of it can be attributed to the faceless interaction the Internet provides in every corner of Life now.

I remember back in the pre-3W days of the Internet, one could always find a "War Room" type area in a BBS message base but it was always limited to that particular area and it wasn't really filled with childish type mud-slinging. It was more a "sophisticated insult" area and you always had an avenue of reply.

But to attack someone as an individual when that person provides a service is ridiculous. If you don't like the menu, you don't eat there. If you don't like the service, you don't patronize the joint. If you think your observations may help, you offer them in a civil manner. You don't come back and throw eggs at the windows, key the cook's car and then hide in the shadows.

Joe - somewhere in my mind, I see some goofy kid in mommy's basement bragging to his friends about how he's so smart because he "told you off and there's nothing you can do because there's no reply to address". Probably thought you shared the same mentality and would spam-flood his mailbox to "teach him a lesson".

It's amazing how unaccountable and rude we've let our society become.
