I'm looking at Sam's, kray's and Anthony's web cam pics. Looks like they got a ton of snow. I guess they'll be playing/plowing/checking rain gauge heaters/etc., most of the day. (I'll bet they were up late last night watching the snow). It'll be interesting to read reports today.
Watch your step today folks, and don't overdo it. Please be careful.

What a day to be a letter carrier.

As I'm writing this, the determination is still being made whether to "suspend operations". The "higher-ups" have been in a telecon since 7:30 trying to make this decision. Keep in mind that the carriers in my office (roughly 60 of them) report at 7:30. It's now 8:40. There are exactly ten carriers in the building. UPDATE: As of 9:00, my supervisor is still waiting for a decision.
Of course, they already know that we have 16 inches of snow on the ground, that the ground clearance on our vehicles is less than a foot, that none of the secondary roads have been touched by plows, that our governor has declared a state of emergency, that the current temperature is 29 degrees, and the forecast high is right at freezing.
I've heard the old adage that "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night" shall keep us from our appointed rounds... but I don't remember anthing in the postal creed about people who paint their porches to make them nice and slippery, or those who have hidden potholes in their yards, or those who string extension cords for Christmas lights
across the sidewalk, or those who allow their dogs to use their
front yards as a litterbox.
I think they're waiting for it to stop snowing before they make the final decision. It's still snowing, but lightly. I could understand the dilemma if this were Christmas Eve, but it's not.
In our office, it's "Safety Second".
