Wha' happened to not-so-slow?

It's still not-so -slow at times, but not always.  (but it's still better than dialup)

I use this SN on several forums.  I'm getting too old to try to remember too many different things.   #-o

Per NWS:

Quote
Sandy Remains a Large Storm; Widespread Impacts Expected Into Early Next Week

The center of Hurricane Sandy will move parallel to the southeast coast of the United States through the weekend. Sandy is a very large tropical cyclone with tropical storm force winds extending outward up to 450 miles. The latest forecast indicates a turn to the northwest by early next week, with direct impacts expected for the Mid-Atlantic and/or Northeast United States.

I'd like to get a list of people that are in the path of Sandy, if you report to Wunderground, I'm going to make a list of PWS stations like this...
http://www.daculaweather.com/4_metar_awxf.php

Since we're not sure of the track, perhaps a map like this would give you some help:

http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?action=googlemap

(it took several seconds for the pins to show up)

You can also use these mesomaps:

I would kinda agree however, not knowing where the servers for those mesomaps are located, it might be a good idea to have an alternative in case they lose power.  Maybe MADIS?

Also, here is my East Coast Storm Reports page that I created when Irene came to town.  It has all the local storm reports for the last 6 hours from most of the WFOs along the East Coast.  It should give you an idea where the trouble spots are.

Steve et all,
Looks like we are currently going to be right in the path of the storm. I have two stations reporting to Wunderground. KPAALLEN4 in Allentown, PA, and KPAMACUN1 in Macungie, PA. Both are in the East Central PA region.

We are planning to get a full measure of Sandy here in So. MD. While the current forecast tracks take it into DE, tis only a stone's throw away from us.....

Currently under a FLASH FLOOD WATCH and HIGH WIND ADVISORY...

On my way to gas up the truck just in case. Hopefully the power doesnt go out here.

Lake Ontario will be nuts too. Expecting waves s high as 22 feet. I wouldnt want to know
how high they'd be with a more westerly fetch.

Hope everyone stays safe and has taken all precautions. I'm kinda surprised this thread hasn't had more activity. From what I am hearing/reading this is a huge storm impacting soooo many. I physically checked my station (a little cleaning) so we are ready for the rain. Its predicted 3- 6" of rain in our area. Also wind watch with gusts up to 58 mph. Our station has never registered a gust higher than 39mph so this might be interesting.
Take care all....

Forecast for Lake Erie looks nasty for Monday night through Tuesday. Some of the models predict open water wind gusts to be 60-75 MPH.

Waves could be big, too. I'm right at the west end of the 22' line, about 4 miles inland.

NYC subways and the Metro North and Long Island Railroads stopped service at 7PM today. NYC buses stopped service at 9PM. NJ PATH will stop service at midnight. Mandatory evacuations are in effect for flood prone parts for NJ, NYC and CT. Storm surge for NYC harbor and LI Sound is forecast to be as much as 12'.

Even though this thing isn't expected to make landfall until late tomorrow, parts of central and northern NJ, and eastern VA have already received 2-4 inches of rain. Parts of eastern PA can expect much of the precipitation to be in the form of snow.

Being that Sandy is expect to make a right turn tomorrow, which would make it pass to the south and then west, the primary concern here will be the winds. Windy currently, but still not much here. That should change tomorrow.

I would think that the 4 to 12 ft storm surge would be the most dangerous threat to NYC.  Perhaps wind and flooding would be more of a concern farther inland.

Storm surge is the most dangerous but don't forget about the broken glass from high winds in manhattan.

Little doubt about that. Along with the coastal parts of CT at the western end of LI Sound. Also central to northern NJ is gonna get flooded. How this eventually plays out is gonna depend a lot on where and when Sandy makes it's forecast right turn tomorrow.

Storm surge is the most dangerous but don't forget about the broken glass from high winds in manhattan.

.. and there's the potential for spawned tornadoes as the storm progresses inland. I hope not and it dissipates quickly.
