Find out what web pages are linked to your site...
« on: December 26, 2007, 06:47:21 PM »
I've used this feature from yahoo for quite a while; however, I don't remember seeing it mentioned here - so I thought I would post the info:

If you would like to see what webpages have a link to your domain/site, just do a Yahoo search with the following search term:

linkdomain:YourDomain.com

of course replace YourDomain with your actual domain.  Another good tip is to "exclude" results that are obvious.  A search term example for my site might be something like this:

linkdomain:eetee.us -site:eetee.us -site:wxforum.net -site:wxnation.com -site:wunderground.com -site:wxforum.net -site:weather-watch.com -site:weatherunderground.com

Using this method, I've found several unauthorized hot links to my site.  Hope this info is helpful/new to some.

Wow, very cool, and kind of disturbing....

Most of the links appear to be originating from either WU or Astrogenic by inclusion.

Or just go here. It does all the major search engines for you.

Yes, this site is very helpful; however, it can't, by default, exclude obvious results (like this forum or WU).  Also, its link to Yahoo uses "Yahoo Site Explorer" - which is similar, but again, cannot exclude results.

Just a note.... I noticed that one of the biggest links to my site was the streaming NOAA weather page.  It seems lots of sites like to use the links that are listed on the NOAA site for streaming weather (the links from others to my site seem to have been cut and pasted right off the NOAA site)

One of the search engines linkpopularity.com checks is MSN, which told me that one of the sites linking to mine was quantcast.com:
http://www.quantcast.com/roanokevalleyweather.com

Quantcast seems to think my site "caters to a 55-64, [household] income up to $60k, very slightly female biased audience".  I'm curious how they figured that out...  :?

For SLOweather, they say, "This site reaches fewer than 2000 U.S. monthly uniques. The site appeals to a more educated, more affluent, senior, rather male following."

It seems like snakeoil to me...

Sounds like mine....

This site reaches fewer than 2000 U.S. monthly uniques. The site is popular among a more educated, primarily older, slightly more male than female crowd.

Hmmmm ...  Primarily Older, more male than female crowd...

The funny thing is that I get most likely as many hits outside the US than I do inside the US.

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...
