The storm cell on Des Moines radar that is NE of Mapleton has an ominous look to it. There have been several meso's and you can see the curves from the air-flow.

ADDED:  Lift is favorable along with the CAPE

There have been 9 tornado reports in Iowa up to now including this one: 2 miles east of Schaller, a large wedge tornado on the ground north of the intersection of highway 20 and highway 71.

Know that area VERY well.

It went NW of my parents, but I am sure my aunt/uncle got shook up pretty well.

Glad to hear it missed your parents, and, that your aunt and uncle were only "in the vicinity".
At 9pm EDT a large wedge tornado was reported by a trained spotter 2 miles North of Nemaha in Buena Vista county.  Hope everyone is ok!!!

Sadly fatalities reported in Mapleton.  Hopefully it's not true.  Talk with a friend who was chasing there and he estimates an EF3-EF4.  He'd know he's an NWS guy.

KTIV TV is now backtracking on that and saying no fatalities but injuries and "dozens of home destroyed"

I agree on both accounts.  Let's hope it stays no fatalities.

Looking at the storm report icons on my GRL3 there is a diagonal line from South-east of Schaller to just east of  Ottosen.  It looks like it could be the path of one tornado, or it could be several but it an ominous looking path!

Well according to Chicago's NWS, the prediction isn't nearly as bad for today as it was yesterday. No more "Violent, long-tracked tornadoes", just "Isolated tornadoes".

Lots of damage reports from yesterday, today looks a little busty though.  We'll see, still could get some action in WI.

Talked to the parents after they came home from coffee in town.

Path of destruction goes from Mapleton to Early to Pocahontas Iowa.

Early, Ia has damage, no one allowed into town.  large trees and electrical poles down.
Nemaha, IA has damage,  roof and tree damage.
Fonda Ia has damage to a new fire truck.

My uncle has minor damage. It just missed him. He is barely north of Early.
Know of many others with damage.

Many farm animals running around because of damage.

This is farm country. Homes are half a mile apart. Lots of corn and soybeans.

Injuries, but nothing else.  Could have been worse.

First tornado warning of the afternoon with meteorologists tracking a tornado. However, I'm not really seeing the signature here...

A few other warnings...
