CWOP Problems?
« on: June 22, 2013, 10:40:32 PM »
It seems none of the stations in my area are updating.  Anyone else seeing problems?

Interesting, for the last couple of hours mine has been skipping every other transmit (software is set for every 15 minutes, it's been every 30 right now).  I'll keep an eye on it.

DW2489 data is hosed.Uploading data anywhere between 15 min. to one hour.current timestamp is taking two hour old data and calling it current.Raw APRS log stopped over two hours ago.Issue appears to be with FINDU not the CWOP servers.
Is it my imagination or has CWOP/FINDU been having a lot of problems lately. If there is a problem with the CWOP servers or FINDU
is someone actually there to fix the issue or does the problem go unresolved for hours until someone associated with those servers is notified in some way?

changed my server to cwop1.aprs.net port 14580 and all seems ok now.  After eight hours of nothing on the default server that Cumulus was using (i switched to rotate.aprs.net 14580 last night and it didn't work).

Here's the last few bits I've sent to CWOP (shortened for relevancy)

Quote
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-4:@231315z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-1:@231320z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-2:@231326z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-2:@231332z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-5:@231338z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-3:@231343z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-5:@231349z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-3:@231355z
DW0148>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-5:@231401z

It looks like it's back to normal, but there is still a big gap of missing data from yesterday.  I don't know what was wrong.  Maybe someone on the mailing list can update us here.

14580 port is not working out too well for me.  I set it to send every 9 minutes. Sometimes data appears when I check Mesowest at 4 or 5 times an hour, but at times it might be once or twice an hour or not at all for several hours.

Things were well enough earlier today that I was actually able to view my station on the MADIS surface map for the 1st time. Needless to say not now.

I know weather underground used to ---and likely still does--- non display a station when it thought data was invalid or missing....but it was such a rare thing.

It seems chances are slim for a CWOP station----I notice none of the airport stations are ever missing nor the lake----in other words the "official" government type stations always seem to transmit and data appears no matter how wonky data is I might add.

Airports don't don't transfer data via CWOP

Yes I know, I was just making a statement their data is never or rarely missing from MADIS maps.
In fact that is why I was mentioned it was SLIM for a CWOP station to appear with regularity (which might not be entirely correct; just know what is happening with data not flowing lately)----deducing from that and that airport stations always appear it should be understood from what I wrote that an airport station is not CWOP.  I dont understand how the conclusion is maybe I thought different.

If you are not using Cumulus  build 1.9.4  1077 or newer then the headers a wrong and being rejected by the CWOP servers.

That wasn't the case with me, however, as I was using 1.9.4 b1079 (as my sig banner indicates).  There were definitely some issues going on.

ah well, maybe that's the issue why my data doesn't go every 9 minutes as instructed. but I am not keen to use something in beta being burned by very unstable WSDL releases.

ok so I looked at the trans packets and it is the wrong format but is going through on servers 1,3,5 only but i see no server 2 and 4.

So I guess I need to update to the Cumulus beta..I just loath to do that.. need to look at the official cumulus forums more but I'm sure I've seen people reporting errors and bugs and things not working as well.

Cumulus is a one man show. Steve does not update official stable version but maybe once a year if that. There is nothing wrong with the beta versions, they usually contain quick fixes for specific things that people ask for.

The current "beta" is out three weeks without much negative feedback. I just installed it last week, after stalling for no good reason.
Working perfectly here.

Wow...thanks all--that was the ticket to the fix !

I switched to the beta around 6 PM CDT today.  Wow it was easy I didn't have to do anything special--very surprised.

Anyway MesoWest is now showing data being received every 5 minutes ever since 625 PM tonight  8-)

Yes very easy and quick.  The only caution in upgrading is to not download/install the html templates if you have edited yours.

Just found the same problem with header format in WSDL. CWOP updated two of their servers in February and April; that's when they stopped accepting the header format. A WSDL patch is available now for that (4.3.1.2).
