A Weather Display replacement
« on: April 27, 2025, 07:17:42 AM »
I use a Davis Vantage Pro2 with USB connection to a PC running Weather Display.
I use weather Display to upload to variuos cloud operators such as MetOffice WOW etc, as well as to my main website which runs on MeteoTemplate.
I am aware that Weather Display seems to have a limited future and does not get updated very much these days as well as being written in an old language.
So what are my best options for replacing Weather Display. MeteoBridge or ?

Brian has provided 26 updates to WD since the beginning of 2025 (see my archive page here: https://wxdoc.info/wd-files.php). Not sure why you say WD doesn't get updated very much nor why it has a limited future. I don't know what "old language" WD is written in, but sometimes old things still work (like me!).

I understand you don't agree with my assessment of WD which is of course your prerogative.
Nevertheless I am still looking for a potential replacement to it.
So anyone?

I think Brian uses Delphi, which is still developed and maintained. He got the latest compiler about build 146.

And Cumulus MX seems to be a popular multi-platform alternative to WD.

For various reasons I also attempted to "replace" WD with something shiny and new.  Best I could find was CumulusMX4.

Both work as advertised and do a fantastic job of collecting data but WD is still the better product for me.

Good luck in your quest to replace WD.

I used WD for years but needed to go entirely Linux and WD does not cut it in Linux. CumulusMX runs the same executable in Linux as Windows now thanks to .Net 8 being supported on Linux and does everything I need. I have not regretted the move.

I am trying to move to more platform agnostic software as I may also be migrating to linux over the next year. Of course I could run a VM but would rather keep that fallback to a minimum.
I do realise that nothing is likely to provide the sheer range of features that WD does.

I have decided to give meteobridge a go as it seems to be pretty close to what I need and I have a spare Raspberry Pi.

MB on Pi is a nice choice. Capture webcam with overlay and everything.

I move from TP Link to Pi a while back.

What made you move away from MB on TP-Link?

It was having connection issues and I figured it was due to RAM running full on the small device. It may have been some totally different thing as it was a while before it settled down. I think some MB updates helped along the way.

But you have ability to use large SD Card for lots of data storage on the Pi.
