I will say that I've had very good success with my 57 for several years.  Having said that, we did just have a few storms that were lighting up the sky like crazy and no way was the 57 picking them all up.   Perhaps it was overloaded.      It does tend to pick up high higher counts when storms are in the area, 10+ miles away, but when its right overhead and the sky doesn't darken, it seems to miss a lot.

I suspect that cloud-to-cloud discharges are less captured than cloud-to-earth discharges as there will be no or only a weak 500 kHz signal travelling through the ground (ground wave). Right overhead a cloud-to-earth discharge might be the end (of not only) the Wh57 ...

This time of year I get plenty of lightning strikes and my WH-57 picks them up from 25 miles. I good storm will be 400-700 strikes but also power outages.

\:D/  Maybe my new position for the WH57 works after all...   We just had a very minor 10 minutes rain- & thunderstorm pass by. Lightnings, a few tens of them, hit 10 - 30 km west of us. My WH57 recorded 3 of them  [tup] :-)

More small thunderstorms are forecasted for the upcoming days - have to monitor how it goes... but now I'm optimistic  8-)

As said before, if it is still missing lightnings that should have been recorded, try to set the dip to indoor sensitivity mode as user manual suggests.
