Severe climate - Ecowitt 2553 vs Ecowitt 2564
« on: July 10, 2025, 05:29:21 PM »
I'm looking to buy/build a high end Ecowitt weather station for extreme weather conditions.  Very cold and snowy winters.
I'm looking at the HP2553 - the Ecowitt version of the Ambient WS-5000.
I'm also looking at the Ecowitt HP2564.
Ecowitt says the 2553 has a built in heat plate which I can use during freezing weather.
The 2564 also has access to a heater.
The 2564 is on sale at Amazon for $240 for prime days.  It probably would be shipped faster.
The 2553 is available through the Ecowitt store for $290.
Any advice on which device would be more reliable in tough weather conditions?

Now, before the tail wags the dog, it's rather the Ambient WS-5000 being the Ambient version of the Ecowitt HP2553.  ;)

The advantage of the HP2564 is that the outdoor sensor array comes as one single piece.

The HP2553 comes with three sensors:
- the outdoor WS80 6-in-1 sensor array
- the WH40H separate rain gauge
- the WN32P separate indoor T/RH and pressure sensor
the HP2553 station lets you position your sensors more independently (also indoors) for different optimal mounting heights for wind and rain readings.

Both, the WS80 and WS90 can be heated (and run) with an IP65 external power supply and up to 20m DC cable. This applies to the anemomter portion and doesn't cover the top portion for both arrays - they might get snow hats/hoods.

I personally prefer the HP2553 due to its greater flexibility.
