Forcing vistors to use the mapclick
« on: March 29, 2025, 06:27:38 PM »
I've had an issue with the advforecast2.php not matching what the NWS forecast has for snowfall, so forcing visitors to go directly to the NWS mapclick forecast.

What do you guys think, are there known issues with this? I want the website to be accurate, so decided screw it, I'll send them directly to the source. I had to tweak the dashboard of coarse. Yes, I know it's not the latest dashboard but shouldn't matter when it comes to the forecast.

You could always switch back to advforecast2.php V4 which page-scrapes the MapClick forecast from weather.gov.

I think that the weather.gov MapClick forecast may use different forecast generation algorithms than the api.weather.gov gridpoint forecasts.

Thanks, Ken, I'll need to look into it. I'm not anywhere close to an expert on this.
It was just frustrating when it came to snowfall forecast. The advforecast2.php would say 3-5 inches and forecasters would say, 2-4"  just an example. Everything else was as the forecasters had on temperature and wind etc. were right on.  At first thought it was just a fluke, but it continued, so was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. It's weird, only when it comes to snowfall predictions did I see these differences. I make not 1-dime off my website, but still want to give the best information. The local radio uses it all the time. Thanks again.

May have figured out the forecast discrepancy between website and direct link to the NWS forecast. Turns out it was a slight coordinates issue causing the wording differences. My recommendation is only use the box upper left when setting up both settings and advforecast2.php. It reared it's ugly head and became most noticeable with snowfall forecast, how many inches were projected. Also since doing this the updated forecast appear promptly. This is nice, before the website would lag as much as an hour behind when the NWS office put out new updates.
