I haven't been to town in the last couple of weeks so I don't know what we're at now.

I was doing some bookeeping, entering some old receipts that had been pigeonholed and found some from 2010 in the $2.50 range.

I'll say. There would be a riot over here if we had to pay that much. Those oil companies just print money.

Already are that high in Nome. Last barge of the season determines the price on gas and fuel oil.

In Oklahoma, the roads and highways tend to be in poor, bumpy condition from not enough money to maintain them due to low gas taxes.  Are the roads in pretty decent shape where you're from?

Nope. In NY, they have 'borrowed" money from what's set aside from gas tax thats supposed to be for highway and bridge repair. Not enough money to fix anything.
Bridges functionally obsolete, roads havent been paved in 15-20 years and so on. lol

We have pretty high fuel taxes in MA.  We have the opposite problem.  I can't remember a time when they weren't fixing the road.  Cones and barrels everywhere!

There is certainly enough tax money available to fix elections, as in give it to people who don't want to work in exchange for their votes for more handouts.

In the mean time, this county bridge locally has been washed out for so long (Hurricane Irene in 2011) that Google Maps has been updated with an aerial picture of the damage:

https://www.google.com/maps/@41.4568572,-74.0395854,102m/data=!3m1!1e3

Our roads here in NY are generally sound and passable, but could be a whole lot better considering the fuel taxes that we pay.  New Jersey has much lower fuel taxes and much better roads.  The worst roads that I've ever driven on were in Minnesota, and I'm talking bad enough where I had to slow down to well below the speed limits through much of the state because I was afraid that the bumps on the Interstate highways were going to pitch my pickup truck into a ditch.....

It's $2.99 in Huntington, WV for most places... Saw a couple of $2.94s in a couple of places though. Across the river, it's $2.79 in Ohio. High gas taxes in the Mountain State.

I drove an 18 wheeler for three years over the road.  I went to every (lower 48) state except for Maine, Oregon and Washington.  The worst roads are Arkansas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.  The best roads are Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida.  I think they ought to make toll roads/bridges illegal and never have another one.  No state has good signage, although Michigan has internally-lit signs in some places and I really liked that.
