Title: Cumulus in lieu of Weather Link
Post by: arrowspace90 on July 26, 2017, 02:38:15 PM
My friend has a new Vantage Vue with a Pro 2 console.  He has a Belfry Boy data logger.  Should that be adequate to hook up to Cumulus via a regular PC?
Will he need to download any additional drivers or anything else?
Is there anything else "special" that he might have to do, that is since he doesn't have Weather Link software?  Is WL essential??

you will likely need a driver
but you can download e,g the silicon labs usb driver
there might also be a link to a suitable driver that comes with the data logger?

I *think* the driver for the Belfry logger is built into windows. Cumulus has a "set logger" utility that you will need of you don't have WL - used to set the logging interval on the console.

Thanks guys.

So, the bottom line is, it "should" work, right?
I am telling my friend to CAREFULLY follow the Belfry Boy and Cumulus set up instructions.

Yep, should work fine, and it's easy to move to a light weight 'puter later if he wants (eg raspberry pi) using the MX version.

I *think* the driver for the Belfry logger is built into windows. Cumulus has a "set logger" utility that you will need of you don't have WL - used to set the logging interval on the console.

The drivers for the BelfryBoy logger are included with windows, but you would need to set the logging interval using a terminal program to ensure that the interval in Cumulus and the console match, or follow the instructions found here  Logger setup utility. (http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=13574.msg141412#msg141412)

It is important that the console time and logging interval are the same in the console and Cumulus, otherwise it can get a bit upset and lose communication.
