Good software for Vantage Pro 2 Plus
« on: January 13, 2025, 07:49:59 AM »
I have a Vantage Pro 2 plus where I use Davis' own software on my PC. Now I would like to have another better software for my PC (Win 11) that works well with my station. I have looked at Weather Display and Cumulus, but I find it difficult to choose and maybe there are others that are better. Suggestions are welcome.

I am all in on Weather Display. But using them  at the same time is nearly impossible.

That is the fault of davis, not any software.

I've been using WD for 20 years. I would say it is a bit complex with a learning curve, but it's very flexible and powerful.

Weather Display and CumulusMX (not the original Cumulus which is now a legacy app) are the two most obvious and most popular candidates. There are several others but not with the popularity of WD or CMX, which should tell you something.

I suspect that most users who have tried both would plump for CumulusMX as the best compromise for features and ease of use (plus free and well-supported).

CumulusMX now has a Weatherlink data converter so your existing Weatherlink .wlk data can be imported in a new CumulusMX install.

Enjoy,

Thanks for the reply. I will try CMX. Seems interesting with the ability to import data from Weatherlink.

I still use Weatherlink 6.03. I don't use it for a website or upload to any site. I just like the graphs.

Many still use WeatherLinkPC which basically provides a no nonsense simple interface/logging capability. Obviously you are not running locked in Davis subscriptions like the 6313 which is a totally different direction?

Would be interesting in understanding what you class as "another better software"? Better in which way? What exactly are you wanting or expecting to do over and above WeatherLinkPC.

About the only downside with WeatherLinkPC is the 299 file limit of monthly WLK log files but doubt you have reached the 24 years 11 month milestone?

Oooh.. I've been running WeatherLinkPC for a while and now have 259 .wlk files.

Where did you see the 299 file limit for WeatherLinkPC .wlk files?

I strongly recommend CumulusMX .. very active developer and testers for new versions.  Good features with lots of weather variables available in processed tags files and JSON files for graphs (using Highcharts).

Come up against that limitation a few years ago now. If anything then 300 would have been reasonable, a full 25 years but oh no they had to make it 1 month short didn't they  ](*,)

Being a VP2 then probably the top tier solution would be a MB NanoSD, which directly installs into any VP2 Envoy or Conole or Vue, maintains transparent capability/compatibility with WeatherLinkPC & .com) and essentially have en almost endless array of customized output formats and uploads to a variety of services, dashboards and other systems.

It probably won't be Cumulusmx. Today I got a Meteobridge Pro from a friend who upgraded to newer HW. I'll try that product and see if it works. There will probably be some questions in another subforum.

The MB Pro will certainly provide an additional data stream and similar outputs to that of the MB NanoSD except unlike the NanoSD the Pro is not able to duplicate WeatherLinkPC or WeatherLink.com products. Still the MB Pro outputs to just about everything else.
