Sure, I would take the cone. It can be sealed with aluminum duct tape. Only need for winter.
I have a VP2 with aero cone and want to use my rain gauge heater.

Did you get what you needed?  I have a decommissioned Davis Vantage Pro2 (Wireless) with a bad sensor board.  It's been in storage for a bit.  It's free but will not come with the indoor console.
