Getting photo for avatar into Profile
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:17:06 AM »
I have a photo in Flickr that I want to transfer into my personal profile.  I can't get it to transfer.  I have copied and pasted every way I can find.  Any suggestions?  :-(

Try downloading it onto your PC and then use the "I will upload my own picture" facility and browse to where you stored the picture.

Keep it limited in size to around 200 x 200 pixels or smaller or it won't be accepted.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I went to Flickr, emailed the photo to myself, then copied-pasted into C/my photos, then used I Have My Own Picture, and it finally went into my profile.

There has to be a better way.  I think the quality of the picture suffered in the process.  Probably the emailing.

Hard to maintain quality of a detailed photo when it is shrunk to avatar size.  I like the photo, especially if that is a thermometer.  Very appropriate and I think I will change mine to my DonkeyTail barometer.  It also doesn't look so great shrunk, but it's the concept of a wx antique.

I use a free image processing program for most of my routine image copy/paste/resize/resample/SaveAs/ file conversions , called Irfanview.

It's a snap to use. Right click virtually any image and paste it into Irfanview, and go right to work on it!

Resizing any file image down to avatar size does remove a lot of information, so those results are not going to come out the greatest.

It is a thermometer.  It hangs on my kitchen wall.  Too bad the detail is not better.  The lady is holding one of the old time glass bottles of coca cola.  Its old, and probably pretty rare.  What makes it even rarer is small print on it which says "Made in the USA".  I like the donkey barometer.  Does it work?

It works great.

"If tail is wet, rain."
"If tail is moving, windy."
etc...

I had to upgrade because it was too hard to interface to my PC.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I went to the website, and it looks interesting.  I will give it a try.

Hover your mouse cursor over the image, right-click, "Save As" or "Save Image" and pick a folder on your PC.  Takes only a second or two.
