New firmware version for WS90 (v1.2.5)
« on: August 13, 2022, 08:18:02 AM »
I reported a bug to Ecowitt support regarding GW2000 and the support noticing that the rain count of the piezo sensor is overestimated told me to upgrade to version 1.2.5, I had been staying at 1.2.3 until a few days ago, does anyone know the changes this version makes? Thanks!

just found the change log:

WS90 Firmware V1.2.5 Upgrade

- 32K XTAL working state check after power on. If no possible for external timing crystal working, switch to internal timing clock, enhancing item robust during different conditions.
- Increase mist or drizzle rain sensitvity. we recomend most user to set Rain1 gain setting to 0.75 wiht GW2000 hub or HP25** cosnole series.
- Tuning for stormy rain sensitivity alignment.

The bug is about uploading data to a custom website. I have a WS90 + WH40 Rain Gauge. If I send the data to my private server with the GW2000 gateway the rain values are inverted, on the variables (e.g. "dailyrainin") dedicated to the traditional rain gauge there are the values of the piezo sensor and on those dedicated to the piezo sensor (e.g. dailyrainin_pz) there are those of the WH40, they are practically inverted, for example something that doesn't happen with the upload to Wunderground, I bypass the problem by modifying the values displayed on my site, however they have already reported the problem to the developers, they should fix it soon! I haven't tested whether the same thing happens with the HP2560 monitor that  I just received.

PS: I've already update to v125 but I won't see rain for 2 days  :-)

I'm surprised others haven't caught this before.  Then again, I just this past weekend added a WH40 to my setup.

mmmh - are you saying that in a custom server post of the GW2000 e.g. monthlyrainin= carries the piezo values and mrainin_piezo= carries the traditional rain gauge values (e.g. WH40) values ?
I cannot confirm this, neither for FW 2.1.7 nor for 2.1.8.
I have the reception logs from FOSHKplugin (raw-foshkplugin.log) which are a 1:1 representation of the console posts (here a GW2000) - and they show the correct values with the correct identifiers.
e.g.
Code: [Select]
rainratein=0.000&eventrainin=0.000&hourlyrainin=0.000&dailyrainin=0.000&weeklyrainin=0.000&monthlyrainin=0.035&yearlyrainin=18.043&totalrainin=18.043&rrain_piezo=0.000&erain_piezo=0.000&hrain_piezo=0.000&drain_piezo=0.000&wrain_piezo=0.000&mrain_piezo=0.071&yrain_piezo=16.685

This is a print of array of ecco_lcl.arr www.roccadibottemeteo.it/ecowitt/ecowitt_array.php , actually rain of piezo in my WS90 is 0 and wh40 has 15.1mm for week, month and year. I also prioritized the traditional rain gauge over “Rain totals” inside the gateway.

I see that you are posting to the PWS Dashboard - did you also post to the ear service and see what that shows: ear.phantasoft.de ?

The prioritization is afaik only for uploading to ecowitt.net (if you choose traditional, only the traditional value is posted and shown, if you choose piezo, both are shown) - and to enable piezo calibration when a WS90 is connected.

have you right!!! With EAR service this doesn't happening!  #-o . I need to understand what is going on with the upload. I naively thought that values are simply sent, but instead they are processed by the server? Thanks for the tip!

it may have to do with the PWS Dashboard - I have seen you have opened a "ticket" in the PWS Dashboard forum   [tup] https://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,72735.0.html - that I would have had suggested.
Let's see what Wim has to say ....

Correct, the default settings in the receiving script assume  that there is no WH40 or other conventional rain sensor in the configuration and swaps the "-_piezo" values content with the old-name-values. The setting to omit "the swapping of -_piezo values" is in line 9 of the receiving script.

There are settings for other items which can be swapped, f.i. in the case of a temphum sensor which failed.
The next version of the script will add extra comment items to the data to record the swap of those fields.

I am new to the Ecowitt world and it was not clear to me how the values were communicated, solved thanks to Wim's timely intervention  [tup] . I confirm that this is not a GW2000 bug.
