Another newbie question dnt Weatherscreen pro / HP2550

Hi,

I was hoping to connect the console to CumulusMX but I do not quite understand how:
The USB (according to the manual) is not for data connection to the PC but rather for firmware updates only.
In the Fine Offset Clone Compatibility Matrix it says:
"26: CumulusMX V13 (b3145) can use a console/server which posts in Ecowitt, Ambient or Wunderground protocol (e.g. custom server option) as a full or complementary station (adding sensors to main station)"
I guess this refers to the HTTP upload?

Two questions:
1) What is the CMX IP address? The IP address of localhost I assume?
2) there is only one customized server setting, right? So I can either broadcast to AWEKAS or CumulusMX, correct?

I tried HTTP Upload (Ecowitt) but it doesn't seem to work:

Hi!

First: there's no HP2250. You probably mean the HP2550.

CMX receives the data via http/custom server from the HP2550.

That's correct.
But you probably can forward to Awekas from within CMX.
If not you could use FOSHKplugin to use more than one user defined target.

I will try the FOHKplugin as well. Unfortunately I still have not managed to establish a HTTP Upload connection to CMX :(
 On the HP2550 I configured the customized server connection as follows:

State: Enable
Protocol Type: Same as Ecowitt
IP/Hostname: http://192.168.178.34
Port:8998
Interval: 20 second
Path: /station/ecowitt

However, the log file tells me this (I think those are the relevant lines)

You must not specify http:// there - this will be added automatically through the station.

You may test the custom server function with EAR.

yes - you didn't follow the instructions given in CMX
you can either choose having CMX make the configuration of your console - or enter yourself what is written in CMX settings:
a) let CMX do the job
 [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
b) do it yourself
 [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

you went for the latter case, but didn't do what was written:
it says:
Server: CMX IP address  ;)
it didn't say: CMX http protocol URL  :oops:

that's, by the way, a general rule for the custom server function,
you enter an IP address or the server domain name with a protocol in front (like http, https, ftp, ....)

You will see that it will work properly when using the mere IP address  [tup]

I'm one step further.

The problem apparently was with the API apllication key from Ecowitt :/

I did get the station to connect now, albeit there is a new problem.
The station sends data once when CMX is started and does not update any more afterwards.

Any thoughts on that?

could you please tell us - best would be step by step - what all you want to do resp. to achieve !?
The Ecowitt API key and Application key have nothing to do with http (Ecowitt) station and its connection to CMX.
It (can) come(s) in in a second step if backfilling of missed (by CMX) data come into play.

Also, you better set debug in CMX to "on" (tag) in the program settings / logging options and then provide the log file from the ..\CumulusMX\MXdiags directory (name is time-stamp.txt - YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.txt - e.g. 20220507-104224.txt).
Then we can see what actually happens when your CMX starts up.

I am simply trying to connect the HP2550C console with CMX on my PC via HTTP upload with the Ecowitt protocol.
The connection seems to work fine now, because some data seems to be coming through (I tried both manual and automatic with the same results).

When I start CMX it reads the data from my station once, but then never updates...that's my current issue. Note that the data is also *once* sent correctly to AWEKAS.

sorry to say that, but where do you know from when it gets interesting ?
Do you know how CMX was programmed and operates ?
I can only be of help when you post (attachment) the full log so I can have the full picture !
Subjective selective excerpts are not going to be helpful.
If you think it's too big, restart CMX, but please provide at least the first five minutes. Thank you .
We want to do professional debugging/incident management and not try to fish in muddy waters.  :roll:
What was again the device and WiFi firmware of your HP2550 clone console ?

And why do AWEKAS postings before you get the basics running ?

I was trying to connect to AWEKAS via CMX as a test, since I am using the one custom server setting on the console for CMX now and not for AWEKAS anymore.

You should definitely update the firmware versions first. Both the device firmware and the WIFI firmware are out of date.
The WIFI firmware in particular has been updated several times in the meantime to ensure stability with regard to the custom server function.

I guess it's the firmware. Especially, as @olicat already stated, the WiFi firmware. Latest version is 1.6.4 - and the latest device firmware is 1.8.0.
CMX doesn't receive anything from your console - only indirectly by backfilling from the Ecowitt cloud.

A general hint: when installing something new like CMX here, you better just get the software working with its basic functionality = receiving data from the console.
All other "stuff" will only make the troubleshooting more difficult as you risk to get "wrong errors".
Once the console receives and displays the sensor data, you can install the other functionalities, step by step.

I have updated both the wifi and console firmware to the latest versions (the console has a new ecowitt symbol in the top left corner now \:D/)!
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to improve the situation (see below).

As mentioned, you are only getting historical and no direct station data.  Is this correct IP?

.....could you connect your console to EAR (ear.phantasoft.de) and follow the instructions !? - you will need the MAC address of your console (--> WS View or console settings) to check the results

Could you check the custom server setup (and please use the WS View Plus app - not the console !!) again, if IP address, port and path are correctly entered !?
Just change the interval to 16 seconds and then save - and wait for the "success" message to appear.

What do you see when you enter http://192.168.178.34:8998 in your browser ?
Are you sure the IP you chose in WS View Plus (console) is the IP of the server (PC ...) where CMX is running on and not the IP of the console ? (the latter would be wrong) ?

If you are running CMX on Windows, is the http traffic via port 8998 allowed by the Windows firewall (or another firewall you use) ?

Just to verify and cross-check ("the devil can be like a squirrel" we say in my country):
Station Settings --> General Settings --> Station Type "HTTP (Ecowitt)"

The "WS Connect" messages are client browsers connecting to the internal CMX web service, nothing to do with your station.

That sounded too good to be true :) The option was already tagged in the Fritz!Box security settings

No.
The positive EAR test shows that your station is able to send correctly via the custom server function.
So your station should also be able to send via custom server to a local CMX.
It has nothing to do with sending the data to Ecowitt.

Your station sends via custom server to CMX - locally and without any cloud solution.
Only any gaps can be filled subsequently by CMX with data from Ecowitt. To do this, however, the station must also send data to Ecowitt (in addition to the custom server).
But that's a whole other story.
Your first step should be to have your weather station send the data to CMX via the custom server function.
This requires that the station is configured accordingly via WS View.

When EAR works it means that the console posts properly via the custom server via the internet.

After that positive test, you have to configure the "old" custom server settings for your custom server again:
IP: 192.168.178.34
path: /station/ecowitt
port: 8998
interval: 16 seconds (save / success)

The issue seems to be somewhere in the LAN then.
Console --> WLAN access point (possibly = WLAN router) --> CMX server.
How to ping
- open a console window in Windows. ("Eingabeaufforderung").
- at the promt enter
ping 192.168.178.49
example:
C:\Users\xxxxxx>ping 192.168.1.39

IT WORKS!!!!!

It was a firewall setting! I don't understand why because the existing setting were autogenerated by cumulus MX ( I did not touch it and I assume that no other program makes entries for cumulus)

I basically had to change the (already existing) incoming rules for cumulusmx.exe in the public domain from blocked to allowed
 [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Now it seems to work.
Any idea why CMX would block itself? Or does the firewall set these rules automatically?

it might be Windows which sets the rules when you start CMX first time ...
in my Windows installation, whenever I install a CMX upgrade, I get a Windows firewall pop-up asking for admission/permission.
You might have ignored (or not noticed) this window and Windows read this as not accepted
