WeatherLink Live - station maintenance
« on: January 29, 2022, 04:13:57 PM »
I just received and setup WeatherLink Live but wasn’t sure what I should do to prevent erroneous readings when performing station maintenance on my VP2. I’ve always put the console in setup mode, is there an equivalent on the WLL module? I did find a “test mode” within the app but I’m not sure if that’s what I’m looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Just unplug the sensors.

Thanks for this suggestion but I’m worried about jostling the station and getting the dreaded tip of the rain bucket that you can’t delete in WLL. My station siting requires a ladder so it isn’t the easiest to get up there and gently open the ISS panel to unplug the sensors without shaking it a bit.

I wrote to Davis to see what they suggest but I’m not sure when I will hear back from them.

Would pulling the power and batteries from WLL do the same thing? I don't think the ISS stores any data, heck, i might be wrong so get confirmation, also, i don't know if you lose settings after x amount of time either so clarify that too...
Kind regards

I have never used the setup mode when doing maintenance. I always unplug the rain gauge, regardless of what I am cleaning. It doesn't cause any issues, unless of course, it's raining while you're doing the maintenance..  \:D/

Thanks all for the suggestions and the idea to unplug the rain sensor. To take WLL offline, it looks like Bashy had the right idea!

Here is the official response from Davis:

Actually, regarding the Weatherlink LIVE, you would need to reset the weatherlink LIVE device by removing 1 battery and disconnecting from AC power.

When you are done with your weatherstation maintenance,

1. power up the Weatherlink LIVE
2. Make sure you are no more the five feet from the weatherlink LIVE device with your smart phone, blue tooth enabled, and logged into your weatherlink app
3. Tap the torso/snowman icon in the top right of the weatherlink app
4. Under Devices tap the right arrow next to <Station Name>
5. Next tap "Edit" next to <Station Name>
6. Tap "Network Settings" and follow the instructions on the app to connect to your network.

I think for your situation the official way is ideal, whilst the majority would just pull the bucket plug.
Me, i would have been stupid enough to have pulled all the damn plugs, not realising that that was just plain idiocy lol
