Alt-S to submit a post?
« on: August 25, 2006, 04:39:07 PM »
Since it looks like this is the new home of the forum, could we please get alt-s for submit and alt-p for preview turned on for new posts?

Bump.

The other forums I haunt allow alt-s to submit a post. Is it possible to activate that here?

Thanks!

Chris

And while we're suggesting...

What's the easiest way to view the most recent posts made on this forum, not just the ones since my last visit?  I don't see a link that says "View most recent posts on this forum", or something along those lines...

That's a good one. The Avalanche Fan Club SMF powered site has one that adds "index.php?action=last24" to the base URL, but that trick doesn't work here (yet).

It should be done now...

alt-p should do a preview (used to to imbed an image)
alt-s should do a submit.

At least in IE7  -- having a problem with Firefox 2.0 acting on the accesskey directive...

I used the hotkeys to preview and submit this post :-)

And, another suggestion (MOD to add...).

I see a MOD that shows the post subject so you don't have to stop and think about what topic you were replying to. If it's what I think it is, it would be a nice addition to have. The link is as follows:
    http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=121524[/list]

I've added two new search params:

http://www.wxforum.net/search.php?search_id=recent  will show the last 7 days of posts

http://www.wxforum.net/search.php?search_id=last24 will show posts in the last 24 hours

I'll add the options to the search items available on the home screen

    Enjoy!

Thanks Ken that is great. It's not what I was exactly looking for though. Was thinking it would actually place the Subject contents in the Subject box. That would be even nicer!

Anyway - you do ROCK!  :D

Yes, I remember that mod to auto-fill the Subject on a reply..

I'll do some trolling for it.

Ahh... found the (ancient) mod and refitted it.  Now the subject line will automatically be 'Re: <topic>' when you do a reply to a post.

See above subject line (was automatically filled in ) :-)

    Thanks for the suggestion Don!

Wow, I'm impressed. I've been wanting that mod for a long long time! That's something that should be a standard part of the phpBB software.

Thanks for finding it and putting into effect.  :D  :D  :D

    You're welcome Don!

Finding the mod was an exercise.. phpBB mods directory had 'rolled it off' so it couldn't be found via that path.  I did a couple of google searches and found the text of the mod cached for a site in Taiwan.

Here's the mod for all you phpBB admins (may need a touch of refitting) but is really simple and only changes posting.php:

    Code: [Select]
    ##############################################################
    ## MOD Title: Automatic Subject on Reply
    ## MOD Author: drathbun < drathbun@forumtopics.com > (Dave Rathbun)
    ## MOD Description: Simple mod to add a default subject on all post replies
    ## MOD Version: 1.0.1
    ##
    ## Installation Level: easy
    ## Installation Time: 5 Minutes
    ## Files To Edit: posting.php
    ## Included Files: n/a
    ##############################################################
    ## For Security Purposes, Please Check: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/downloads/ for the
    ## latest version of this MOD. Downloading this MOD from other sites could cause malicious code
    ## to enter into your phpBB Forum. As such, phpBB will not offer support for MOD's not offered
    ## in our MOD-Database, located at: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/downloads/
    ##############################################################
    ## Author Notes:
    ## This very simple mod provides a default subject on all post replies
    ## It essentially duplicates the "Quote" function of a default subject.
    ## 2.0.4 compatible as written
    ## Installation Notes
    ## The "After, Add" operation is used in the mod notes because that's one of the
    ## available options. However, what you can really do is replace the line:
    ## $subject = '';
    ## with the "After, Add" code. The code will work if installed per these
    ## instructions, so it should be compatible with any automatic mod installers.
    ## But the reason for the mod instructions being written the way they are is
    ## there are two instances of the line
    ##
    ## $subject = '';
    ##
    ## in the code. I had to provide enough lines to be specific.
    ##
    ## 2.0.3 compatible with one additional edit, detailed here. You have to add the
    ## topic_title to the sql that retrieves the post info. In 2.0.4 this change has
    ## already been made, and therefore is not included in the standard mod install
    ## operations.
    ##
    ## OPEN posting.php
    ## FIND $sql = "SELECT f.*, t.topic_status
    ## IN-LINE AFTER, ADD , t.topic_title
    ##
    ##
    ## 1.0.1 update notes
    ## Changed initial subject to limit to 60 characters. MySQL does not
    ## require this mod, but other databases might.
    ##
    ## No language entries or template changes are required for this very simple mod.
