Title: Please put location and website in your profiles...
Post by: saratogaWX on July 28, 2006, 07:12:04 PM
Thanks to all for registering!!

As Gary used to chide us, "please put your location in your profile". :D

We'd also like to request that your website address in there too.

Thanks!

Ken
Title: Please put location and website in your profiles...
Post by: saratogaWX on August 27, 2006, 01:25:06 AM
I'm posting this to bring it up in the 'what's new' searches..

We're now at 69 members (*WooHoo  :!:  8) ) so to those who haven't filled in the Location (city, state or city, country), and/or your website address in your profile, please take a moment to do so.

We've installed a mod to the board that prevents non-members (people not logged in to the board) from seeing memberlists, profiles or email/website/ICQ/PM data.  This should prevent harvesting of addresses and help prevent spambots from polluting the forum.  Only logged-in and activated members can see that data.

Also, if you've just (re)-joined, please post a message about your weather website in the Personal Weather Stations forum.

Thanks!

Ken

This is another 'bump' on the topic.  We're now at 105 members (  :D  ) and not everyone had seen this request.

Please check your profiles and make sure your Location and Weather Website are in your profile.

Thanks!

Ken

Welcome to all the members from the former Ambient forum.

Please do check your forum profile information and include your location and a link to your personal weather website in your profile .. it will help folks to get to know you better.

Now at 760 members and growing :D

Best regards,
Ken

760 are you sure???

Well, 762 as I post this :D

Of that number, probably less than 100 are routinely active on the forum as some folks have joined, asked a question, gotten the response they needed and not returned.  That's fairly typical on most forums, and we also have some member IDs from the old weatherforum.net that have not visited for a long time. :(

I'm missing something. Why does one post say 105 and the next 768? Sometimes I'm a little slow. Sorry. :???:

Wake up Anthony!  ;)

The post that mentioned 105 members was from November 01, 2006.  ;)

Sorry.. it was an old thread I'd bumped and we've added a lot of members since Nov 2006 :)

I'm using the current member count (upper left corner of the header) for my info.

Best regards,
Ken

Hey, you think maybe I can use that excuse too?  I'm not too far away and a lot of folk around here have relation in WV and/or originally came from there.   ;)

I should also add on a good day I can pick up NOAA from Beckly on my weather radio.

When did you lose your West Virginity?

Mark, that's pretty impressive.  You're about 150 miles from Beckley, and that station is only 400 watts.

Forgive me for asking, but just how big is your antenna?

I thought he was going to say he has a wire tied to the smokestack on his John Deere.

It just an old Radio Shack discone scanner antenna that you can see at the top of the tower in this photo:

The only time I get it is on days with a lot of skip.  It combines with my local weather station even on the built in antenna when it happens.  I'm pretty sure I also have picked up Charleston a few times too.

Right now on the outside antenna using the PRO2040 scanner I'm picking up

162.425 MHz Athens, Oh.
162.450 MHz Mansfield, Oh.
162.475 MHz High Hill, Oh.
162.500 MHz Chillicothe, Oh.
162.550 MHz Columbus, Oh.

Some co-channel on the Mansfield station but full quieting on the others.

This has always been a good location.  At times I've been able to pickup watchable pictures on TV channels from Dayton, Mansfield, and nearly every channel 2-13 with the antennas, preamp and rotor shown in the photo.  Spent a lot of evenings during the cold winter nights cranking the old rotor just to see how many TV stations I could pickup before I got a computer.  I never run an amp on the scanner though.

Maybe when I put a smoke stack on it.  The smoke stack is still stuck in the design and lack of a welder phase.

Mark - nice tower but please tell me that rotating the discone doesn't make any difference in reception... :-P

Also, to keep this on topic - I am noticing that lots of folks (new and old) still haven't updated their profiles so that it includes their location (i.e. City, State) and their website address, if they have one.

;) Well ya know, I have picked up NOAA in Nevada if I turn it just right and the wind is blowing from the SE.

Nah, I just stuck it up there for the extra height and didn't want to hang it on the side of the tower.  I have a 6' wood star I made and hang up there with lights at Christmas just below the terrestrial TV antennas.  I have enough trouble hoisting it up there by myself without taking out my DirecTV dish and anemometer/cable as it is.   ;)

Welcome to all the folks who've joined the forum recently!

Please take a moment to fill in your profile with your location and personal weather website URL.

Don't have a personal weather website yet?  It's easy to get started with publishing using the free website associated with your ISP, and if you're a bit more adventurous, using a web hoster is easy (and can let you run some PHP scripts to make your site even more informative).   Check out the 'Where are the scripts' (http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=973.0) section for pointers to get many free website scripts and template sets.

Best regards,
Ken

BTT.

I know it's a sticky and stays at the top, but doesn't hurt to refresh it and highlight it every now and then as a reminder.

May not be the correct place to put this question, but how do I get included in the WXForum's member map?

Send a PM to NoQuitters to get your site listed on the WXforum.net member map.

You can also get listed by wxflint by posting a request on this thread (http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=3893.msg67977#new)

Are there any future plans to expand the member map to include the international members on here? ;)
