newbie about to order WS-2000. Question about sensors
« on: September 03, 2019, 03:32:34 PM »
Hello all.  I am a newbie about to order a PWS, and have decided to get the Ambient WS-2000 for $213 off the Ambient website.

When looking at the optional sensors, it appears you have choice of WH-31, or WH-31B

According to my research the WH-31was made for stations which require RCC, which excludes the WS-2000 .  The WH-31B is made for stations which do not require RCC - which includes the WS-2000.  The WH-31B is also a newer version.
So, it looks like the WH-31B is a better choice so far.

Now, to throw a wrench into the whole mix, on the WS-2000 order page, it lists the WH-31 on the order menu (the older one that has un-needed RCC).  When you look at the WH-31B, it shows to be back-ordered.

SO,
Which is best sensor, and WHY?
Any benefit or feature of 1 over another, and WHY?
Or, does it make any difference.

Thanks to all.

The RCC is not utilized for the WS-2000 nor for the GW1000 should you decide to add that as a console.
Therefore the WS-2000 and the GW1000 can use either version (WH31 or WH31B) with or without the RCC...it ignores the RCC if it is in there anyway. Neither is better. They provide the same exact temp/hum sensor a Sensirion SHT30.

Now if you ever decide to get a WS-3000 display it can only use the WH31 sensors with the RCC. So there is no better between the WH31 or the WH31B, it has to do with what you need if you have a WS-3000. The WH31B saves you a few cents if you have a WS-2000 because it has no need for the RCC. Why pay for something you don't need?

The WS-2000 order page may say that you can add a WH31 but you may in fact get a WH31B....just maybe I think.

It makes no difference for you if you are getting a WS-2000. It only would matter to those getting a WS-3000.

By the way the WS-3000 is not a better version of the WS-2000. They are completely different animals with different purpose. The WS-3000 is not a weather station. It is just a multisensor console for temp/hum.
