I am playing with WP as we speak, and I agree, it shouldn't be this difficult to do.

Edit:  In the WP Admin, click on Add New under Pages, then fill out the heading. Then click on the "Add image" button, that brings up a box, then click on "Insert from URL", then type "https://www.northshoreweatherservice.com/kbox_br1_0.jpg" minus the quotes, click the return arrow button, then click Preview up top. That should work, or it did for me here when I did mine.

Here is the 1 page I have made for my radar image. The issue is the radar image shown is 3 days old. WP is using a cached pic from somewhere, because the radar image is current here:-k ](*,)

ok...I tried that...and it came up with "This image has an empty alt attribute.  It's fine name is kbox_br1_0.jpg"

Saw that as well. I put the page into html edit mode, and over on the right side, click on "'Block". It brings up a box that says "Image settings". Underneath you will see Alt text with a box below that. Put anything in there. Then try the preview button up at the top.

Edit: I think when I first played with WP and ran into this is when I decided to do my own site either from scratch or use a web template like Saratoga's.

<!-- wp:image -->
<figure class="wp-block-image"><img src="https://www.northshoreweatherservice.com/kbox_br1_0.jpg" alt=""/></figure>
<!-- /wp:image -->

So in the part where it says alt=""  I put anything in there?

Yes, you can. I put the word "image" in it.

it just changed the alt empty message to "image" and still is blank.  I don't get it.

Here is the link to the image from filezilla:
ftp://northuk2@northshoreweatherservice.com/kbox_br1_0.jpg   (northuk2 is the user name that bluehost gave me)

but then if i go to http://www.northshoreweatherservice.com/kbox_br1_0.jpg
I get nothing.

What the hell is the difference?  How do I get www to recognize what is on the ftp? lol....I'm sorry...this is just crazy

I do understand the frustration, believe me. When I clicked on the ftp link you provided, it wanted a username and password to see it. Do not need to do that here in public. As to what to do now.........good question. You may want to try a template or make your site from scratch and not use Wordpress at the present time.

Check out this 2 min video about "Add from Server"...let me know what you think?  It seems like it might be close to what I'm looking for...it's a plugin apparently

That may work. All you can do is try it.

Aha!!!!!!!! That could be the whole crux of the problem. I just hate it when webhosts do not give you all of the information you need up front.

So you think that's where I need to put the .php scripts and have GR3 upload images to that folder?  I know this is important information...but after all of this...how should I use that root path?

That folder is your "root" folder or should be. Look in it and see if what is showing there is the same as the folder you have been working in. They should be the same. As for GR3, I made a folder for those images to be in specifically.

Well I don’t think it is the same...I was assuming that root was just the ‘/‘ folder that I was connecting to via ftp.  Now this is telling me that the Wordpress root is the public_html folder.  I haven’t touched that at all.

Hmmm.......Normally, the '/' is the root, and the public_html folder should be a twin. That being said, all webhosts are different in their Linux setups.

ok my bad on that...the public_html folder is pretty much a copy of the '/' folder.  So should I make a public_html/gr3 folder?  like you did?  Then I'll have gr3 upload the images to that folder?

You should be able to make a GR3 folder in your root directory, point GR3 to that and be okay, otherwise do place it in the public_html folder.

ok so now my millionth question of the day lol....oh man do I owe you btw...ok so now using these scripts...i gotta figure out how to get a radar image to show up.  I'm so lost with all of these paths now.  I don't care how it happens at this point lol...I just need to get a radar image to show up in my wordpress page.  Will knowing this root allow me to get a radar image into wordpress?  I have it in public_html/gr3...which i guess means that it is officially inside of wordpress now.  Any thoughts on this?  If your brain is toast at this point, I totally get it...I'm almost there, I think.

I am still seeing the "Coming Soon" Admin Login page and nothing else, so there isn't anyway for me or anyone else to look at it.

If you are using WP 5.0, try using the "convert to blocks" option on your non-functioning file. Highlight the file and click on the 3 vertical dots; the option is there. I had this issue this morning...grrr..
