I have a quick question I asked at the other location but didn't ever get around to following up on..
I seriously plan on a station upgrade sometime in the near future. I have planed for this before and something has always cropped up to squash it but maybe the third time is the charm LOL!!!

Anyway the version I an currently running now is primarily for the OS stations which is what I have currently. I would most likely need an upgrade to address some VP2 issues that have been fixed BUT will the update over write all the modifications already made
to the files for web page publication?? Stupid question I know but I have yet to have a need to upgrade and I am not at all sure what to expect from the process.

I honestly hope I get the need to do this upgrade soon if you catch my drift LOL!

Thanks!

Wayne,

What version are you planning to upgrade from?  I went from a OS station to a Davis WM II without issue.  I don't think there will be any issue for you.  Your pages should all be able to be used as is.  I would back up the entire VWS directory just the same.

Just wanted to note here that I found one of the fixes in V14.00p37 and newer is one that applies to many of us with web pages displaying warnings.   8-)

"# P37. The warning tag was displaying the last warning in the list. It now displays the first warning in the list."

Sounds like this should get a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning to display first if there also happens to be a watch that was issued at an earlier time.  Previous versions would have shown the watch and then the warning.

There's been no severe weather around here yet for me to test it though.

I did the upgrade to P40 this morning because of the P37 warning fix. Can't comment on the warning fix as we don't have any warning, but as far as P40 running smoothly I haven't seen any issues from anything else. So if you had other thing that were broke you might want to check and see if they are still broke. :?

I'll take some of the credit for the p37 warnings fix. \:D/  I was relentless in badgering Ed for this (sorry Ed, I hadda do it)  :)
The way that the warnings worked in the past is that the warning tag would be the LAST (oldest) warning shown in the 1.txt field. The way that it works in p37 is that the FIRST warning in the 1.txt file is the warning shown in the warning tag. I haven' had a chance to test either, but I'm sure I'll get a chance soon.

I am currently running 13.01 which is what I have been running ever since using VWS due to it's ability to generate and upload a weather web page.

I am hoping I get to do an update on equipment sometime on or after the first of the year... I've said that lots of time and something happens that prevents if from becoming reality
but I still have fingers, toes and my furs have their paws crossed that it'll happen.

Thanks for the insight on the update! Never having a reason to up date yet I was not sure if it would over write everything or just update the patched files it sees as new.

Welcome to WxForum Total!

I would double check that VWS installed into the same directory as your original installation.  Also try upgrading a second time if you have not done so already.  (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/memmurphy/goodl.gif)

Sounds like an incomplete download.  My last updates (file size) have been right at 12.7 Mb once downloaded.  I would try deleting the file and re-downloading it again.

Apparently none of the members here have run into that problem.  If you tried re-downloading the file and are still having a problem I would either call or send an email to Ed the author of the software:

support@AmbientWeatherStore.com

FYI.. We are only software users/purchasers like yourself.  We have no direct connection to the author or his company outside of that.  You have the same access to him as we do.

When I installed p47, I had no auto-updates to the mesonet.  Fell back to p45.
When I installed p48; no probs.
When I installed p49, no auto-updates to mesonet, and mesonet stations on the mesomap were all garbled at the very top of the map.  The last mesonet download time in MESONET Settings was 16Jan.  I'm staying away from p49.

It took me 2 or 3 years to update from 13.0P9 to 14.00 :)  Actually the last update held nothing in the line of station enhancements for me but did clear up a lot of my FTP errors and such. Used to be that when my connection dropped..which is very ,very often the uploads would cease until I restarted VWS.. V 14 helped that quite a lot! If it could only fix my shaky internet DSL connection LOL!

Hi, on the last two updates .57 and .58 during the install it asks for disk #2 and the path goes to Content.IE\PZ5DGW7C

Is it just me having this problem?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I've read that the hourly rain has been returned to it's original function. Can anyone tell me if a few THW & THSW Index problems have been fixed recently?

Here are the problems I'm experiencing with v14.00p31:

In the Yearly Archive Report the value reported as THW Index "Min" is this month's minimum, not this year's minimum.

THW Index Avg will not show on a meter or gauge, but will show on a thermometer.
THW Index will not show on a graph, but will show on a stripchart.
Tags for daily, monthly, annual and yesterday's high & low THW Index do not work.

THSW Index will not calculate and is always equal to the temperature.

I'm confused as to which version of VWS is current compared to what I have.  Their website says the latest version is 14.00p054.  My copy which is running says it is 14:00P78, wouldn't P78 be newer than P054??  I'm running a Davis Pro2 if that makes a difference.

Josh

That is strange, as I remember I went to the main download page this spring and downloaded the latest version for Davis and this is what I got.  It seems to be working so I won't mess with it.  It was doing weird things with the 5 day forecast until I recently figured out some how it had changed the area code to some unknown place.  i changed it back to mine and all is well now.   I wish his installs had the version number in the file name instead of just vws_install.exe  so you could know what you were installing.

You can check which version you have on your computer. Click on "help" in the toolbar and then click on "About Virtual Weather Station"

What were were talking about is what version the install file is BEFORE you install it.  When you download a new version from Ambient, no matter for what station or if it is a beta or not, ALL the files are named vws_install.exe  but are in different directories on the site. Unless you rename it when you download it there is no way to find out what version it is with out installing it..

Well, I probably could tell you if I know what they were, I downloaded the latest version yesterday and got P87.  I can't find anything labiled THW THSW or anything with those initials or even close under modify display or html tags.  In fact I copied ALL the tags that VWS shows in to a page for testing a while back http://members.cox.net/dsscheibe/vws/tags.htm (http://members.cox.net/dsscheibe/vws/tags.htm)

Does anyone have a complete list of tags, I'm fairly sure that they aren't all listed in the html tags list.  I have a script that is calculating a value from this value
Code: [Select]
^vva165^ and it is no where in the tags list.

Still NOGO. They stillplot 0 value.

I pasted it in to my tag test page and it seems to be working. P87    Every thing has a value except for the yearly data and the monthly low.

I was googling THSW and THW and found this link to a pdf of DERIVED VARIABLES IN DAVIS WEATHER PRODUCTS

Not sure the link will work, google added a lot of junk to it that I removed and you can't go to the page from google, clicking the link downloads the pdf

Watch the values for a few days and see which values seem correct.

I remember a few being way off - your monthly average THW is 4.0, yearly average is 0.4, several readings are 0.0
I don't remember which, but one of the values seemed to show "yesterday's" as being a monthly value or something, the same error showed up on the "Monthly Archive" & "Yearly Archive" created by VWS.
It looks like nothing may have actually change.

Well considering I didn't know what THW was until yesterday, I don't have any ideas what it should be..  Also have to remember I'm in Phoenix and we've been having Monsoon storms for the last few nights which really changes the wind, humidity and can give rapid temperature changes.   I was outside a little bit ago, it was overcast, cloud to cloud lightning, the high was 105 at 5:08 PM, it has dropped to 85 at 11:10 PM and is falling at 5.26 degrees an hour but should level off soon considering it is overcast, the dew point is at 66 and the wind is dead calm right now though last night it was blowing hard.  I worked in the yard this morning cleaning up all the leaves and seed pods it had blown up in front of the doors, it was 85 but was a bit ugly humid.  That's what I get for planting a Cassia by the front door, lots of little yellow flowers in the spring produces lots of seed pods in the summer..  I should scatter the seeds around the neighborhood it volunteers pretty well.  I transplanted some of the volunteers to the back yard nice shady plant for the critters and the bird seem to like it too.  Just heard some thunder, thundered ALL night last night, didn't sleep very well..  Since I started writing this the temperature change rate has dropped to 4.7 and the temperature to 84.3, the dew point to 68.43.

It does appear nothing has changed yet, I'm sure the average has been a lot higher than 2.9 in July.

Scott - I also noticed something on your main page, it's NOT a mistake in your code, but rather a mistake in Virtual Weather Station. The "normal" rain values are actually the "actual" rain totals for your nearest airport. This mistake shows up on MANY sites because the value was labeled as "normal rain" in the VWS HTML template, even the manual contradicts itself when describing this value. It would be great if they would fix this.

As of 7/26/09 the monthly measued rain at KPHX is 0.40 and the "normal" is 0.80. The 0.40 value is shown on your site, but like I said, this is a common mistake.

Here's the July wunderground calendar for KPHX:
http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KPHX/2009/7/26/MonthlyHistory.html#calendar

It's a pain to do it this way, but I just have my "normal" values shown in seperate report, until I can get around to setting up a spreadsheet or database to load it from.

As near as I can tell it is downloading the values from Wunderground. I found them under wunderground-climate Report and that is what it is showing for Normal YTD Precip.  Your right I saw on the news last night the year to date normal is 6.3' or something close to that and we are way behind on rain fall from our "nonsoon" as the monsoon has only delivered us a couple of short showers, more like sprinkles.  This week the dew point has dropped to the upper to lower 40's.

I ran into a new problem this weekend with VWS P87  I don't know of this is a beta problem or a previous problem I've not seen before.  For three days in a row we had barometer over 30" but my graphic clipped it at 30, it was set to a max of 35 and setting it to 40 didn't help at all.  I started digging though the settings and found it was limited to 30 under Settings Range.  Everyone might want to check their range settings to see if they are too low.I will have to see if goes over 30 again and if this fixed the problem but I'm fairly sure it did.  I don't remember it doing so before.

BTW, I've found ED answers pretty much every email but doesn't necessary do anything about the issue..
In this case he blamed my station for clipping the data and said it couldn't be VWS..

try checking the IP address that the IP logger is now uising with weather link (which has a search function)
and then make sure VWS is set to use that
(i.e the IP address might have changed)

Done all that as well.  No communication to either WeatherLink or VWS.  Light is on the data link, so I know that it is picking up information from the sensors.

Ed had me contact Davis, which I did.  Seems there may be a problem at their end, which I can't understand since the program had always worked until I downloaded the latest VWS Beta.  But that should not have mattered either.  But I'm not the only one having a problem.  Their programmers are aware of the glitch and are working on it.  All the information is being upload to the Davis WeatherLink site ok, but it is being delayed by about 5 minutes for some reason.  Anyway, they hope to have a solution soon.  I sure hope so.  I didn't realize that my neighbors were actually checking my Wunderground site for weather information until it quit posting.

Maybe I'll have to try it, I've been hassling him about several things.  Got him yesterday to say he would fix my heavy rain issue with KPHX METAR showing DSNT SHRA in the remarks (RMK) and VWS would show the KPHX METAR icon and icon.jpg (KPHX is my forecast METAR) Heavy Rain.  Ed tried to tell me that was the only icon he had for that condition..
Quote
"This is the closest icon I have for this condition"
I looked in the icon folder and just the icons dealing with rain are: Light Rain, Rain, Freezing Rain, Heavy Rain, Mist, T-Storm, Scat. Rain and  Scat. Storms, so that was BS.  I told him Scat. Rain is a far better choice for DSNT SHRA which is distant showers than Heavy Rain.  In METAR +RA would be heavy rain, RA is normal rain and -RA is light rain.

http://members.cox.net/dsscheibe/vws/metar.htm (http://members.cox.net/dsscheibe/vws/metar.htm)

The biggest problem is VWS is not interpreting the METARS the same way. Saturday night  KPHX was showing a RMK of LTGCGIC and it's icon was showing Lightning.  The problem the other 6 local METAR were showing the same RMK and their icons where showing anything from Clear to Cloudy based on what the main body of the METAR said.. So my question to ED was why does VWS treat KPHX differently than the other sites?  My contention is that VWS should not interpret items in the RMK section at all and if it has to then Scat Rain is far better for that condition than Heavy Rain.  Manned stations put all kinds of junk in RMK.  I'm running p87.  BTW, when it was actually raining at my house my smart forecast did over ride the METAR forecast but if the smart forecast isn't active and the METAR does have SHRA then the forecast still says Heavy Rain, or in this case LT, lightning. We had a hell of a thunderstorm for about an hour Saturday night. What I need is some way that if the METAR says LT and it's actually raining to get the smart forecast to show thunderstorm instead of varying rain rates.

His reply last night

I removed the code to change the icon based on this condtion and changed the description to Showers in the Vicinity. It will have no effect.

I can not make too many changes. For one personal change to the software, I tend to get 10 complaints for the change. I will include this in the next version.

Scott,

This problem is at least 3 years old. I exchanged several emails with Ed back in 2005 or 2006. He told me then it was a Wunderground issue and he could pass only the data that WU fed him. I told him since the data he was receiving from WU was NOT "Normal Rain" but "Actual Rain" at a METAR station, he simply needed to correct the VWS documentation and properly document this tag. His final email said he would make this update in the next iteration of the VWS manual. As I mentioned, that was at least 3 years ago, and to my knowledge, this portion of the document never got changed.

So what did he change between P97 and P100?  I've got p99 running.

http://ambientweather.wikispaces.com/Beta+Version+Instructions (http://ambientweather.wikispaces.com/Beta+Version+Instructions)

# P93. Added functionality to determine why excessive data is being downloaded from the WMR200 weather station. The file \vws\data\wmr200archive.txt includes a time stamp for each record downloaded from archive. If you are having problems with random data being downloaded from archive memory, send me this file and I will review it. Send the file to ed@ambientweather.com for review.
Changed the way Heavy Rain in area is reported on METAR icons.

# P94-95. Another stab at fixing CWS rain issue. Added functions for Rainwise and Columbia that drops out of download state if the OK flag is missed and the maximum number of download records are exceeded.

# P96. There has been an ongoing problem with calculating daily, monthly and yearly rain. To provide some background, most weather stations do not calculate this data, so VWS must calculate it. It is usually calculated by subtracting the daily minumum total rain from the current total rain, or:
Daily rain = current total rain - daily minimum total rain
The issue is that the quality of the data from the weather station may be questionable, causing a 0.00 reading in total rain, resulting the daily rain equalling the total rain, or:
Daily rain = current total rain - 0 = current total rain
To limit these issues and band-aid this problem, it will only calculate the daily minimum rain when the date changes. Since rain is always increasing, this is not an issue, it will always be the minimum value at midnight.

# P97. Addressing Columbia Weather Stations. Total rain still not correct. Also, does not stop downloading records. To troubleshoot, I added a text file \vws\data\columbia.txt that tracks some of the critical paramters for both issues. If you are having problems with random data being downloaded from archive memory, send me this file and I will review it. Send the file to ed@ambientweather.com for review. Make sure run it for a few days and make sure rain is accumulating.

# P100. Supports the new Vantage Vue by Davis Instruments.

I have HeavyWeather Pro Ver. 1.0 running, but VWS will not see it or the history files even though I have

The 2810 isn't listed in the drop-down box as a selectible station, I tried the only 2 lacrosse options, to no avail.

Thanks!

I'm afraid to jinx it, but so far I'm very happy wit this latest upgrade.  Beforehand, I'd usually have to restart VWS at least once a day b/c something would cause it to crash.  Since I've upgraded, its been running strong.

Watch...that's it.  I've done it now.  Complete and utter failure coming up.

Are you sure you installed into the same directory?  That is why this error is returned.

Problem
I receive the error "Insert Disk 2" after downloading and installing Virtual Weather Station or Weather Exchange.
This may also present itself as a "bad crc error" (checksum error), "Error executing file. (#1, Line 1)" or "Invalid win32 application".
Solution

   1. The download of the distribution kit (executable file) from our website was not complete. Check the filesize on your computer vs. the published filesize on the website. If the download was not complete, please download this distribution kit again.
   2. Save the file to a directory or folder and not the desktop. The operating system may not allow you to run it from a temporary directory or the desktop.

If that does not work:

   1. Locate .exe (EX: vws_install.exe or wxex.exe) and delete it.
   2. Open Internet Explorer
   3. Go to Tools | Internet Options
   4. Delete temporary internet files
   5. Click OK
   6. Close all Internet Explorer windows
   7. Reopen Internet Explorer
   8. Download Virtual Weather Station or Weather Exchange again
   9. Save the file. Please add your initials to the beginning of the filename (ex: js_vws_install.exe).
  10. Once the save is complete, locate the .exe (ex: js_vws_install.exe)
  11. Double click on the .exe (ex: js_vws_install.exe) file and follow the installation steps.

Installed on my system and everything is working fine.  Remember to reset the parameters in the 5 day forecast.  Otherwise you will get the forecast for Phoenix..... I think I like the Phoenix forecast better than mine today. :-(  Currently it's 37 degrees, pouring down rain, winds gusting to 38mph and I have to work outside today.....  ](*,)

I installed the latest beta and now I cant seem to get any data for the barometer or outside temperature graph. I get an error which says "bad database point. check computer clock or weather station time".

I checked  time and the weather station is about 2 secs faster than the computer clock. will that through it off?

i searched for any post using "bad database point" but didnt see anything. maybe i am missing something.

Well.... I did find something missing in this release.  I have a script on my site that shows "Days Without Rainfall" (which is a big deal here in the Pacific Northwet).  It relies on the ^vyd009^ tag which is the Total Rain Yearly High Date. Which is another way of saying the last day there was measureable precipitation.  Unfortunately it is not updating.  We have had .19 inches of rain today and it is showing yesterday's date.

I'll shoot an email to Ed and report back if I hear anything.

I just installed P33 and the Total Rain Yearly High date is still showing 2 days ago.  We have had rain every day for quite some time now, so this tag should return today's date.  It seems to be returning today -2 consistently.  I emailed Ed earlier about this and he said he was able to recreate the condition so he was confident of an early fix.  I'll let him know that there is still an issue.

Running P37, will wait for P38 to test or wunderground site may be the cause. I seem to be a time out as it only took 5-10 seconds to update climent and now it takes almost 1 minute now.

Mine hasn't affected the yearly stuff YET. I've hopefully given Ed enough clues to find the problem. But the fact that it didn't start until today is strange too. I've been running this version for at least two weeks.

Also, I run WD and it has all the correct values.

Another thing to try is playing with your CPU resource settings under Program Settings.  If it is on Low, set it to High or vice versa.  This has cleared up some lockup issues for me in the past.

I just updated yesterday to version 15.0.  So far it has kept running but it's too soon to tell.
Did they change anything that might address VWS's tendency to just stop working??

I've been running v14.01 for quite some time now - over a year? It's been quite stable, even on Win 8.0

As I mention in another post, I'm having trouble now that I upgraded to Win 8.1. The new v15.x might solve the problem, but I think I'll wait for some input from others before I upgrade VWS. VWS is working fine, if I don't mind the restarts every 5 minutes. I'll take the restarts over a lockup!!

VWS 14.01 running here ok on  windows 8.1   so you might look at what the conflict is.  Weather link is the problem even after all the update. It drops the coms when ever I click on anything and after 10 minutes it drops out also.

I'll hitch a ride on this thread as well.  I started using VWS about 3 months ago running it on a brand new HP desktop running Win7 64 bit.  It ran trouble free for like the first 2 months.  Then I thought I'd start uploading to various websites using VWS.  I first started with PWSweather and it was a bit of a pain to get it working but I finally did.  I then thought I give WBug a try again, it did not play well with Weatherlink or maybe Weatherlink did not play well with it so I gave up with it a long time ago.  Everything seemed to go ok but then the lockups started.  Sometimes it would go for many days or even a week but I would eventually get the (not responding) thing and I would have to restart the program.  I'm going to stop uploading to WBug first then see what happens.  Then PWS if I get no results from that.  I'll report back with any findings.

For what it's worth I've been using Weatherlink for a year now to upload to WU, CWOP and the Weatherlink Network with zero issues (well except when I tried uploading to WBug)(caused constant drops in uploading many times a day).  It's been the most reliable, stable software I've ever used with my weather station, really.  I can have drops in Charter internet and when I comes back Weatherlink always reconnects on its own.
Title: Re: Latest VWS updates(beta)
Post by: dj1111s on July 05, 2014, 11:14:27 PM
I may have found my problem with VWS not responding.  I tried stopping uploads to WBug.  It still locked up.  I tried stopping uploads to PWS and it still locked up.  The last time it stopped uploading I noticed the program was still working fine locally.  The wind speeds and directions were changing just fine.  I then went to the "Internet" menu and clicked the connect button.  It was then at the program locked up and I had to shut it down and restart it.  So I thought Hmmmm is it something with the internet connection.  After looking at settings all over the computer I eventually poked around in my router software and found 2 IP addresses listed for my PC in the DHCP list.  Took a few minutes then I remember when I installed the computer, it came with wifi but I connected it wired direct to my router.  So it was connected both wireless and wired.  This never affected Weatherlink but maybe VWS is having an issue with it.  After reading many articles about using both wired and wireless at the same time with Windows 7 I was seeing repeated reports of issues.  There are ways you can make it work better but in my case I don't want wireless, just wired.  So I turned off wifi and have not had a problem since.  Knock on wood.

Thanks for your answer and so sad to read what Ed had to deal with.
Sadly it's the way people act these days, demanding everything and when they don't get it or not fast enough, almost anything is said.
Safely spoken from behind their computer screens, while most of them wouldn't dare to say these things when being face to face with someone.

Latest BETA is 15.00p5 now, from 11 september 2015.

Since my station is slowly dying after more then 10 years of service I am thinking about buying the WMR200 (which is supported by VWS) or the WMR300 (which isn't yet supported).
Hopefully Ed can find some motivation again and people should respect his work (a bit) more.
Reporting issues isn't a problem, but please do so in a respectful way.

I used VWS for many years but moved on to Weather Display about 2 years ago because VWS was no longer being updated to keep pace with other system updates - like metar, forecasts, etc.  I only use VWS now to produce the NOAA style climate reports, I like the way they are displayed.  I really liked VWS but just felt it was time to move on so that my web site would be current.  Good luck with VWS  :-|

I have not switched because of the NOAA style reports which give me the Station Reports of Saratoga-Weather scripts.  I like the way Station Reports displays the info.

I would like to add a Vantage Vue with WifiLogger to my lake house but have not done anything yet because I am not sure if there is anyway I could produce a history like this and display it like the Station Reports.

 Hi,

its been a long time since I have been on here as VWS has been plodding along nicely with WU working fine.

But ftp'ing has become a problem again. We have Image Salsa working fine still and am wondering whether to use that to send the jpegs.

I feel like a change of software might be on the cards, but very reluctant after 15 years of good service.

looking at the server, some of the VWS files have 0 bytes, so I wonder what the cause of that could be?

Also it seems to keep saying "downloading metar data" each time I log onto it, I wonder if I need to clear out the database, there is tons of (unused) stuff on there after all these years

I use VWS and have been for centuries ( least it feels that long)... Those jpegs with zero length may be jpegs that you no longer have on your main VWS form/screen and are no longer updated...

Thanks for all the replies, I am trying Weatherlink as a temporary fix till I get time to spend on Reconfiguring VWS.

It has run for 4 days without a hitch.

it is working through a screen grabbing system we have on image salsa, a good system, but far too complicated:

I use FLING to upload all the VWS data... I do not use any VWS imagery, or the VWS site templates... instead drive the data to the Sawratoga Templates... .. but years ago began using FLING to take the FTP load from VWS.. using this method allows the data on site to be 'virtual' real time, or as rapidly as t parameters update between VUE and VWS.,.,. I only use Weatherlink for VUE configuratio9n and initiasl calibgration,... other config and calibrations done through VWS  Weather Cam still uploads and live stream done through Webcam 7 Pro ... on some installs,(Win 10???)   Fling can abuse the Paging file size, and stop working, so I make it a point to restart FLING once in awhile to clear that.... need to check for another Fling update I suppose... ... also, if you check my site, you'll see some things aren't working or aren't working correctly, as I attempt to upgrade and revamp some stuff, and overcome some hardware issues over the last couple of months... arrrrgh... getting too old for this...

We are back on VWS after I reduced the database size to 2000 ( no idea what that means, but I was clutching at straws and it was on a huge figure and takes ages to catch up if computer crashes)

I also cleared a big internet error log - I had left it running by mistake.

Then I restarted VWS on high cpu use setting and it is back to normal

not sure which of the above did the trick, but at least its working and I still prefer the result after looking round online at lots of other stations.

broadcast.jpg is such a neat picture and serves our sailing club's requirement exactly.

Help Needed.
I have been running VWS internet addition licensed for 10 years currently running on a Win 7 box.
I have moved it from an XP box to Win 7 box and to several win 7 boxes as they died.
I tried to move it to a windows 10 box and for the life of me can' get it to work.

I followed the instructions on this forum but still no luck.
1. Copied my current C:VWS to the new computer same place.
2. I ran an install on the new computer
3. then I copied my VWS folder again
VWS version is V15 P3 which is running fine on my old win 7 box as I type this.

When I start VWS the program does not recognize the serial connection to my Davis Pro WS
I update the serial port and save but it does not save. wach time I start VWS same windows come up.
I have tried wiping the VWS folder and reinstalling several times but it will not save the serial settings when I start the program. Yet on start up it recognizes it is a licensed copy.
Made sure no files inside VWS directory are write only

Appreciate any help you can provide

You may have already resolved this issue but just in case: There is actually a major difference in security in Windows 10 from 7. Certain rights are restricted even to Administrator level accounts. Manual approval is required to run at full administrator privileges under most set-ups to prevent rogue software using an administrator account unsupervised to make changes, write data etc.

Workaround per each use: Find the startup icon for VWS and other mouse click you should see "Run As Administrator" as an option in the list. Do so and see if that resolves your issues.

If it does you can make the selection permanent by other mouse clicking on the icon again, then select properties, then select the compatibility tab, then check the box next to Run As Administrator.

Struggling to get version 15.05 loaded and running. My current win 7 system is running version 15.03.
Should I upgrade my win 7 application to 15.05 before I try to migrate it to the new Win10 box?
Does anyone have a copy of the version 15.03 they can share as I don't seem to have that.
I really like this software and want to avoid moving to something new if I can help it.

I am running v15.00 p05 on Win10 with no problems. I love the program too. The drag and drop setup of the desktop is what I like the best compared to other software that is locked in. ( Yeah I heard it before..unsupported... blah blah blah...along wth the same on VVPro) It gets it's data from my WiFi Logger and generates graphics that are displayed on my Kodak Wireless Photo frame. Kinda like a color Davis display but doesn't rely on the cloud or a web server. I also use SeqDownload to pull weather maps and satellite images into the same directory for display.

I would do a fresh install on the Win10 box and then apply your license. (Back up a copy of the old files first of course). Then copy your config files over. I can't find what the difference is between p03 and p05 is. Oh and Brian is correct. On Win10 after you install it. right click on the icon and select Run As Administrator. I had to do the same with VVPro.
