You know those tipping spoons on a VP2? Well, they have been busy tipping here. 3.84" since midnight. That is a lot of rain for this time of year in this area. The ground has been so dry there is little run off.

Happy to see it.

Blizzard warning out for Oklahoma panhandle.  As of 3:45 am, it looks like Stillwater is going to get some rain soon with special weather statement issued for it.   No severe alert.  Storm moving fast at 50 mph, so don't expect a very impressive rain amount.     OKC doesn't look like it's going to get much rain.  Rain is more widespread in Kansas.

A quote from this morning's Chicago area NWS Office:

There`s an old song by Chet Atkins called "Windy and Warm" and
that kind of seems like a good description of today`s weather,
although perhaps Breezy and Warm is a bit more reflective given
the forecast wind gusts today (to around 25-30 mph). While we
tickled the 80 degree mark in places on Monday, think we`ll see
these readings over a wider area today

Carlaw

We have hit 80.1 at the homestead this afternoon. Rain and cooler temps for the rest of the week.

What a difference a year makes

CoCoRaHS reports for my location:

1 March 2020 through 8 April 2020 Total precipitation .98"
1 March 2021     "       8 April 2021    "        "             7.95"

I like this year much better.  :-)

Snow showers?  Even though it's well into April, no complaints here.  The month's weather has been eventful, with the temperature hitting 85 on the 5th, followed by more than 5 inches of rain this past week, easing the severity of our abnormally dry conditions coming out of winter.  The moisture means the spring green-up will pick up some steam, passing snow showers or not.

Mid April is generally very early spring here that can bring some very nice warm, or quite cold and rainy conditions.  Last few days it has been on the warm side and cooled down a bit by some early light rain this morning, which was followed by some bright sun and also dark clouds in the afternoon.  I took a little walk around our crescent at about 4:00 pm and out in the east sky saw this big dark cloud in the direction of our house, so took a picture.

When I got home a few minutes later my wife asked if I had seen the funnel cloud... which I hadn't, so she showed a Facebook post of the picture a neighbour had taken just a couple of minutes before my picture.  I guess I am never in the right place at the right time.

Enjoy,
Paul

It's a rainy night in Stillwater late on 4/23 with nearly all of Stillwater going over 1 inch of rain as of 11:30pm as the normal amount of rainfall for April starts to close in.  Other parts of the state  had hail today but none here, so far.  Much of April has been cool and totally free of severe weather here.

I know this spring has been unusually cool.  I didn't have to turn on the air conditioning until Sat. May 15th.  It was good to find out it still works.  At least the season hasn't been so messed up that a drought has set in.  A flood watch out now will help keep it that way.

Oklahoma City still hasn't made it above 83 this spring.

Here's a tweet from NWS Norman from yesterday:
"The wet pattern is forecast to continue into middle of next week, with rain chances each day and high temperatures will remain below average to average for this time of year. Remarkably, the long-range guidance suggests severe weather potential will remain low."

Another drop in temps. Backdoor cold front moved in off of Lake Michigan. The water temps are still in the 40s. We started with a cool dry spring and we finally started getting mid summer weather without the rain. We are about 6 inches behind a normal year so far. No real rain in the coming forecast yet and we are going back into the upper 80s today.

I had a low of 47 on June 1.  Today it was 95.

Saturday=High of 99.

But. thank god the wind will be from the Southwest. So a much dryer heat.

Kid 2 has her grad party tomorrow.   Slushies and cotton candy. Lots of tents.

We had a low of -20 this spring. So if we get to 100, that will be a spread of 120 degrees in 3 1/2 months.

That is so freaky.  The OKC TV weatherman was pointing that out.   In central Oklahoma,  it hasn't gotten above 90 yet.  Tornadoes have been very few this spring, fortunately.  About the only unforgettable severe weather was the freak hail and high wind thunderstorm in Norman.    It got to the 100s in the Dakotas for more weather freakiness.

Low here was 10 below, which was enough to kill off or reduce a lot of decorative perennials like Crepe Myrtles.  It looks like the Magnolia trees have survived.

The baking also continues in northern Illinois. 90s yesterday, today and tomorrow. But it's a "dry heat", humidity has been bouncing in the 20s and 30s.

Lack of rain is also a concern, average for the year is over 13", we are stuck at 5.71". Maybe some sprinkles next week.

Following the passage of a strong thunderstorm that arrived weakened, the air over Stillwater quite dramatically collapsed early Saturday morning, leading to strong, steady winds, bringing about a much warmer temperature along with much lower humidity down to 30% as images show below.

Temperature started out at 68 at 12:49 am and peaked at 87 at 3:09 am. The initial surge in temperature started around 1:44 am when wind switched from NW to ESE gusting to 31 mph.  It was an interesting weather phenomenon, called a heat burst, not very commonly seen.  Storm only brought around a third of an inch of rain.

The multi-day Oklahoma deluge is off to a good start. I've got 2.10" as of midnight, June 26 of the projected 6.2".  The town of Perkins, though, 10 mi.  to the south of me is running ahead with 3.21".  If rain from the southern TX panhandle holds together, more rain will come later this morning.

For an amazing update, Perkins is already up to 6.38" as of 4:40 am for probably the most rain in the state for the last two days.  The rain is a training.

That looks cool as hell Bunty.  [tup]

The TV weatherman in the picture looks like it's worse than cool.  He is Mike Morgan, infamous for telling people of south Oklahoma City on May 31, 2013 to get in your cars and drive south in response to an unusually strong tornado. It led to traffic congestion. TV weathermen on other channels advised people to take cover indoors.  Fortunately, the tornado lifted before it got to south OKC, but not before surprising 3 veteran storm chasers and killing them.  Two of them got sucked out of the car.

On Wednesday at 6pm in Stillwater,  it kind of looked like that picture of OKC, but storm had considerably diminished when it arrived here giving only .01" of rain.  Fortunately, unlike how pictures of it may look, this long rainy spell has only been about the rain and some wind with no big hail or tornados.  Rain has gone over 10" in several locations in central Oklahoma for the most.  The northeast side of Oklahoma County  got so much rain that Lake Arcadia, located near Route 66, got 9 ft. above normal and had to be closed.  For here, it's rained 5.04", while 10 miles south in Perkins it's been 9.11".  As long as Stillwater Creek can adequately drain into the Cimarron River, I don't expect any flooding in the city of Stillwater.

It looks like late Friday the chance of rain will diminish considerably with Sat. being dry and Sunny.  The 4th of July looks the same way with a 20% chance of rain.  Hopefully, the fireworks at Boomer Lake Park, part of lake pictured below, will go on as scheduled.  HAPPY 4th of JULY everybody!

On Thursday thru 8pm, it only rained .23" at my station, but in much of Oklahoma City it rained between 1 and 2" on saturated ground.  As a result, at one house in north Oklahoma City, someone's backyard has been eroding away from a creek next to it.

Photo shows heavy storm over Oklahoma City metro Monday evening.  It rained up to around 2.5" with a flash flood warning issued.  A person on OKC Talk described it as, "In the middle of a pretty wild thunderstorm near Penn Square Mall.  Some of the loudest thunder ever, a torrential downpour and crazy winds straight out of the west, which almost never happens."  And he later added,   "I've received a ton of rain in only about 30 minutes.  What a welcome relief, although the Deep Fork Creek that runs directly behind my house is near the very top of the 15' embankment, where it typically is at a trickle.  The power of all that water is something to behold."

I didn't get under any intense rain cloud here and only had .17".  However, interestingly enough, it did come a heavy rain a mile to the southwest of me in downtown Stillwater, where it suddenly rained a little over an inch, according to one WU station.  It must have been where the claps of thunder were coming from.  It seems the storm formed just to the west southwest of me but moved east very slow and had pretty much rained itself out when it got to me:    https://www.stwnewspress.com/news/downpour-causes-street-flooding-in-stillwater/article_8fe0cc52-ee5d-11eb-9605-df7b27c43c5a.html (https://www.stwnewspress.com/news/downpour-causes-street-flooding-in-stillwater/article_8fe0cc52-ee5d-11eb-9605-df7b27c43c5a.html)

For Oklahoma City during July the temperature was 1.7 degrees below normal.  17 days had 90 or better.  The same number was the case at my weather station.  The highest high was 99.  Rainfall wasn't abundant in July but enough rain fell to keep a drought from starting, so far.

It will be interesting if August will be able to get to 100 for the first time this summer.

2021 worst summer period Ive experienced here in Turkey for 14 years with above normal high temps , no rain, low afternoon 15-25% daytime humidity, high oppressive night time humidity 97% combined with 30c+ at midnight , personal weather station has busted highest temperature 35.9c,highest dew point 26c ,highest heat index 42C.

our summers were regularly kept in the lower end of 30c by prevailing gusty north easterly winds this year very calm winds pushing the feels like temps to 40c daily !!  .

many parts of southern turkey there are/were catastrophic forest fires effecting many urban areas or tourism areas that said there is an element of some it being man made by stupidity and ignorance but a lot of it is shear 40c or more with very low humidity below 20% classic recipe for fire outbreaks combined with ignorance..it gets hot here but the low humidity is not something Ive seen here especially living at 300 meters from the sea front !

another reason to forget 2021 along with 2020 !

OKC still hasn't gotten to at least 100 this summer.  An OKC TV weatherman said that hasn't happened since 2004.

As shown, Oklahoma City got another heavy summer storm on Friday afternoon.  Some amounts have gone over 2".  It was still raining in parts of Oklahoma City as of 5pm.  In a major high wind incident, power lines got blown down across I-35 in northeast Oklahoma City.  I-35 closed both ways.  It took around two hours to reopen.

The town 10 miles south of me, Perkins, also had a big storm.  It rained 2.18" there.  Just sprinkles and distant thunder here. Most of next week will have highs back to just the mid to upper 80s.

Wow, reminds me of the time in 2019 when I got a $13,000 claim check from my insurance company to totally replace the shingles on my house.  Fortunately, no big hail problems since then.

Thank you, Nora!

We picked up 1.19" from moisture brought to the Great Plains by Nora, a tropical storm from the eastern Pacific. It was needed moisture. Long way to Kansas, but appreciated.

LOL, there was a severe thunderstorm warning issued for my county Tuesday evening but by the time it got here it had already vaporized into nothingness. Nothing much was missed, since elsewhere nearly all the rains amounts from the storms were under a half inch.  So for here, the main event from the passing cold front is high temp back to under 90 at around 87 on Wednesday.  But back to the 90s for the rest of the week.  Maybe to 100+ by Saturday.

Low temperature of 49 this morning. I would say goodbye to summer but the high temperatures are in the 90s.
