Pat,

I got down to -13 on February 3 2011.  We regularly get to the low single digits during the winter.  Mule Creek is at the bottom of an ancient caldera so basically we live in a hole and the cold air settles in my front yard.  But you can't beat the scenery.

That's not too bad. I saw -9.4 that day out here with a -26 wind chill. That was a rough 3 day stretch that pretty much killed the majority of what ever was growing around my property - Rosemary, Palms, roses - everything except the goatheads, of course!

19 seemed a little early to me but I guess it is what it is out there the way it settles.

I'm up in ABQ right now and it's been cold and breezy with a little rain yesterday.

Nice, soft and steady snow most of the overnite with 28 for the low. Looked to be about 1.5" or a tad more. An odd start to it as it looked like someone sprinkling a lot of road salt. Small, round and white, after the misty rain began to freeze.

High temp of 33.4 at 3:15 so far.

Snow a week before Thanksgiving? A little strange down here.

I almost forgot I had mountains in Las Cruces. The low laying fog in the mornings and low clouds have kept them covered up right down to the foothills.

New daily hi-temp records for my station the last few days with 81 on the 15th becoming my hottest day ever for February (80.9 - 2009). This FEB average is already only 0.2 degrees behind my highest of 50.4 in 2009.

My long dry spell is over! I'm having some on/off drizzles that just gave me a bucket tip! I was looking at 71 days before that tip.

I recorded 1.21 inches for the storm in Mule Creek.  Much needed for the ranchers.

I traded emails with him out of concern a month or so ago. He's OK, just no time and some shifting interests from what I got out of it.

Las Cruces has been covered with a hazy grey cover the last couple of days, even with all the 20+MPH winds we've had the last week. NWS says it should blow out soon:

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF NM AND TX.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT
NOT NECESSARILY HAZARDOUS...BUT STRONGER WEST WINDS WILL DEVELOP
ACROSS THE BORDERLAND TODAY. THIS WILL FLUSH OUT THE REST OF THE
GRAY DUST FROM THE PLAINS AND POSSIBLY REPLACE IT WITH BROWN DUST
FROM THE SOUTHWEST DESERTS.
NOT EXPECTING SIGNIFICANTLY HIGH GUSTS
OR SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED VISIBILITIES WITH TODAY`S WIND. WEST WINDS
IN THE 20 TO 30 MPH RANGE WITH SOME GUST NEAR 40 MPH.

That's a relief...

The last day of May saw a high temp of 99.6. Should break 100 today and most of the week. Pretty much normal timing down here.

Not weather related (well, it is in a way, kind of):

Not supposed to have them here, but we had a 5.2 magnitude earthquake centered about 37 miles south of Mule Creek last night.  Shook the house pretty good for about 10 seconds.  Growing up in southern California I was aware right away what was going on.  The only thing that surprised me was what it did to our cat.  She still isn't ok.  I think she is sitting around waiting for the next aftershock.

So far, with only a few days left, this AUG is my second lowest AVG with 77 degrees. Lowest was 76.5 in 2008. Both years are the only ones without a 100+ degree day seeing highs of 95.9 this year and 95.5 in 2008.

This weekend is the first time I saw the word "Sunny" in the forecast and no percentage of rain chance since early July...

Wow!

My biggest snowfall in the 10 years I've lived in Mule Creek.  12 inches of snow in 16 hours today.  Supposed to stop tonight and probably be all melted away by Monday.  Still it looks good outside the windows.
