Looking to add a station and need advice.
« on: May 11, 2025, 11:37:54 PM »
Hi all. Newbee here, first post and I'm looking to add a weather station to the house I'm selling and my other home. I'll start with the house I'm selling but I'm pretty sure the same requirements will be needed for both.

I have a 9" cylindrical kitchen wall vent in a cabin I own, and it's located on an exterior wall. I'm replacing that vent in a different location and I'm going to be left with this old cabin vent that will need to be removed. It's at the end of the kitchen counter and rather than having or patching a large hole I came up with an idea. Why not cover it with a weather station panel? Viola! Perfect solution! How nice will it be for the new owner to wake up, have coffee and check the forecast! Or during a windy day be able to tell whether the power may go out or monitor it while away. It's killing me I didn't think of it before! Especially where I live in the PNW where weather events knocking out power occur at least 3 to 4 times a year.

My ideal candidate for the station will be a color panel a minimum of 7 1/2" diagonal or more, a station pole with gauges that includes outdoor AQI sensor (10 and 2.5 particulate sensitivity) that I can mount effectively about 12' or so above the ground and a movable rain collector so it can be reached easily for cleaning. WIFI with a battery backup would also be ideal.

For my other house everything is the same except I have more flexibility on the height and location. It's important to have the AQI these days because of where we live, particularly in the other home. The cabin isn't as critical (but could be someday...).

Thanks in advance on any pointers!!
