Splitting UV, solar and wind from primary ISS to a 6332
« on: March 13, 2024, 10:18:57 AM »
I have two transmitters, one is the ISS for UV, Solar, rain and T/H, the second is a 6332 sensor transmitter on separate channel for wind on my roof.  I want to move my solar and UV sensors to the roof along with my anemometer.  Can I use the 6332 on the roof for Solar, UV and wind, if so, how would I make this work w/ my 6312 and 6313 consoles?

Different answers for 6312 and 6313:

6312 will not be able to see solar/UV on a non-ISS transmitter.

6313 will be able to do so - just configure the source transmitter for the solar/UV tiles appropriately.

So john, what you are saying is that I can use 6332 to transmit all three, but not configure the older console to see all three.

I am doing just that.  Not for the faint of heart but fairly cheap and working fine since the dates I was posting on this thread:  https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=15915

I did have an issue with phantom wind gusts, but just changed the old consoles to receive the wind straigh from the anenometer transmitter.

I think this answers a question I was about to ask. I'm trying to replace my 6152 wireless transmitter but it looks like you can't get them anymore, so I bought a 6332. Sounds like that will *not* work with my 6312 receiver... correct? Kind of a bummer that this part is not available anymore.

Incorrect mostly .... 6152 was the complete station comprising VP2 ISS/sensors/console etc, the so called old (as such) console component was 6312. The 6332 is simply the same PCB/Antenna etc in a generic Davis enclosure common to other Davis transmitters such as anemometer (6332) transmitter etc

6332 will work fine with 6312, 6332 (Anemometer Transmitter Kit) can support/replace a full ISS sensor suite, same board just in a different enclosure.

The replacement for the 6152 (as such) wireless transmitter enclosure/PCB does not have a Davis part # (as far as I am aware) but is still available and simply listed/ordered as a "VP2 replacement ISS Sim Board and Box" which comes without the VP2 ISS Solar Door which has a part# 7345.114

Essentially you could also replace the original VP2 ISS PCB/Antenna with the 6332 PCB/Antenna but typically the VP2 ISS box becomes sun damaged anyway. The VP2 ISS Box (without PCB ) is also available separately.

Ah, good to know. Didn't seem like it was registering any solar readings when I installed it today but it was late in the day so will check tomorrow.

As per my answer upthread, you cannot use a 6332 transmitter for solar or UV sensors for reception by a legacy 6312 console/receiver. (though the newer 6313 console is fine).

The basic rule is that the 6312 console can only receive data for sensors on a 6332 transmitter for which it is specifically designed and for which there is a sensor/transmitter option in the console settings. This includes a single alternative wind sensor or multiple temp/hum sensors. But it does NOT include solar/UV (or rain apparently, despite there being a rain transmitter option in console settings).

There appears some confusion in regard (wording?) what the 6332 transmitter can handle? In essence the 6332 (as was the 6331) is nothing more than a standard VP2 ISS PCB in a different housing. The 6332 (as such) is fully compatible and interchangeable with that of the so called 6152 ISS PCB as a standalone VP2 ISS.

You can certainly fully populate or partially populate a 6332 with an anemometer, Solrad, UV, Temp, Temp/Hum or rain collector and it will work/function exactly as an ISS does hence the above statement where you cannot use a 6332 transmitter for solar or UV sensors is rather misleading as worded. Where an ISS is being used with a separate anemometer then that is controlled from the console nothing to do with the transmitter (as such) same as the 6152 component VP2 ISS can be used as a stand-alone secondary transmitter for an anemometer or any other console allowed configuration, nothing to do with any transmitter design.

Hi Guys,

Just for curiosity's sake, may I assume that the 6100 WeatherLink Live can also receive all options such as solar, UV, FARS, rain bucket etc... readings via a 6332? Just like the 6313 can?

Cheers,

Yes, 6100 WLL and 6313 new console can receive any combination of sensors/transmitters on all 8 wireless channels. (As could the discontinued Envoy8X unit). Though there are still certain related concepts to be aware of. For example, a primary anemometer for calculating other wind-dependent parameters like wind chill - if there are multiple anemometers on a system then the console has to know which one to use for such calculations..

It is only the legacy 6312 and Envoy units that had limitations on which combinations of sensors/transmitters they could receive because of more limited computing power and memory in the older units.

Yes, that's a useful clarification. The default scenario is typically a 6312 console plus an ISS. If the ISS is present (and is configured as an ISS on the console) then solar/UV cannot be attached to a 6332 and be received by the 6312 console.

However, in the unlikely scenario that the ISS, for whatever reason, is not present (or the ISS channel is not configured at the console for reception as an ISS) then a 6332 can certainly be used effectively as an alternative ISS.

As mattk says, the PCBA in an ISS and in a 6331/2 transmitter are the same identical parts and the console has no idea whether the signal is coming from an ISS or a 6332. It is just the console settings that determine how data on a given wireless channel is processed. I guess the general rule is that you can only attach solar/UV to a single transmitter on a station and that transmitter's channel must be configured as ISS type.
