I have used Allisonhouse for both radar and placefile data since April 2010. Tyler, Ryan, Justin, Joe and Gilbert are awesome, as is their support.

I don't see DNS entrys for placefiles.us or placefile.us .. what's the URL to their site??

BTW, I use AllisonHouse for radar and some placefiles.  I also generate placefiles for the conditions at USA regional network member sites and for Blitzortung lightning strikes (North America).

Thanks.. that helps.  I've not used them, just Allisonhouse (for many years) and I'm very satisfied with their service and availability.

I don't pay for data.  I don't subscribe to data.  I use free placefiles if I can find them, otherwise I do without.

And I'm not particularly interested in anything from Tonga which is the country associated with  the .to TLD.

I subscribe to placefiles.us.to mainly for the lightning data. They now have strike-by-strike lightning that seems to be from ENTLN.  The data is amazing and unlike anything I've ever seen for the price.

Looks like the one Saratoga posted for free.  And then there's this one (not a placefile though):  lightningmaps.org

I failed to mention that I also have Allisonhouse...have had them for years. They are the best for overall placefiles they offer.

I also use the Blitzortung lightning placefile Saratoga posted. It uses the same data that lightningmaps.org has. I keep the lightningmaps.org website up on a dedicated monitor in the basement 24/7. You could say I'm a lightning data fanatic. I have the USPLN lightning access from hosting one of their sensors, but their network misses several strokes compared to the ENTLN. The Blitzortung network is coming along...but it does not pick up the in-cloud strikes that ENTLN does, which often increase dramatically in the maturing stages of a thunderstorm.

I'm hoping to host a Blitzortung sensor soon. I'm on the waiting list. I would love to provide additional coverage for the Southeast US.

Here is a couple of the comparisions I captured a few minutes ago. The first image is Allisonhouse lightning, second is the Blitzortung Saratoga placefile, and third is the placefiles.us.to data. For any lightning fans like myself...the results are clear. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Are all three showing the same thing? (cloud-to-ground only vs. all strikes)

I do like the way AllisonHouse keeps things clean by using different colors to show the number of strikes in an area versus showing every little strike. You can still see the radar data.
