The night minimums here currently are around freezing point, it gets relatively cold after sunset, during the day it is around 10 (50F). I wonder if we get any snow this winter at all... last few winters we had practically nothing, it did snow but it never stayed on ground for too long, usually a few days at most.
Historically how much snow do you usually get?
I mentioned this in the other forum about climate change as well...
It really depends, at higher elevations in the mountains there is already plenty of snow now (about 2 inches).
I live in one of the lowest and warmest parts of the country and in addition in the second largest city, with significant heat island effect. Nevertheless, we do get snow regularly. However, when I was "young" (I mean like 10, so about 20yrs ago) we had snow for like 1-2 months straight and went sledging often. These days.... as I said previously, since I guess 2000 at least, there is maybe a few days with some very little snow on ground, but hardly anything. And it usually melts very quickly. In 2012 we had quite cold span, but it was also an anomaly... the winter was very warm and then suddenly in the mid February, it got extremely cold (well below freezing point, there was even a week when the daily maxium did not get over -10C) and that lasted even to beginning of March, but there was not much precipitation, so also no snow.
