Expected delivery times at this tme of year
« on: March 20, 2021, 06:41:52 AM »
I ordered my stuff from Ecowitt 8 weeks ago yesterday but still no news of when it might be shipped, now I know they have a holiday at this time of year but what sort of additional time should I expect before I get some news? ANyone any ideas of what has happened before in Feb/Mar when ordering?

Hi!

Depends ...
That is probably always dependent on the current availability of stock items. Experience has shown that orders with 868MHz can take a little longer. I think my personal maximum waiting time was something of 10 or 12 weeks.
You can always ask Lucy whether something is wrong with your order or if she can give you an approximate delivery date.
Actually, I even know that Lucy herself communicates the current status from time to time.
Just ask there by email.

If you have ordered (a) 868 MHz sensor(s)/console(s), it will usually take longer - because in general Ecowitt don't have 868 MHz models on stock, only 915 and 433 MHz models. That means that the items of each order for 868 MHz need to be produced (and tested) before shipment can start. Once they are shipped, Ecowitt (Lucy) will send you an email. Depending on the shipment it can take between 2 - 14 days (not counting lengthy withhold at customs) - FedEx will take 2 days (but is significantly more expensive and by default only applied to items > 100 USD; you can request FedEx shipping for additional fee for articles which do not fall under the default regulation - see shipping policy at the ecowitt.com web site), normal China post can be 7 days but I've already had 20 days (including customs processing). As the New Chinese Year celebrations are over, there shouldn't be extra delay.

I just wondered before I asked Lucy. I'll leave it perhaps another week and then email if I've heard nothing.

Lucy is very accurate and neat in these affairs - once they ship, she sends a mail (Junk/Spam folders to be checked 8-)).
Usually she also sends a confirmation mail giving you a rough timeline.
below an excerpt example of such a much:
---------------------
"Thanks for your purchasing.:)
We have received your payment and will ship your order soon.:)
Please note that we'll need some time to prepare your order.
We'll ship your order with registered mail and the estimated delivery time will
be 6-7 weeks after the shipment due to the Corona Virus.
If it's acceptable, please confirm your shipping address:  ...."
---------------------
or the shipment confirmation:
--------------------
"Good day!

Thanks for your waiting!
We have shipped your order of WH32 and WH31 and here's the tracking number: H101866017681060xxxx(China Post).
Please give some days for the tracking information to be updated.
Please note that the delivery time will be around 3-4 weeks due to the Corona Virus.
Please download the attached manuals.
Any question, please let us know.:)
Best Regards,
--------------------------
They have special COVID-19 caused order processing procedures in place in China including desinfection of items and parcels.
This also takes extra time for the service providers.

My order was somewhat larger, a complete system plus lightning sensor so that's probably why my order is taking longer.

I ordered a GW1002 system on 14th Jan.  It shipped from Hong Kong last Wednesday, FedEx tracking shows it landed in the UK on Sunday morning and is due for delivery tomorrow.

Based on that timing my system should be on its way but it is still not shipped. I ordered my system 1 week later

I decided to email Lucy to see what news she might have since the system ordered 1 week before mine has arrived here in the UK but mine is not even shipped yet!

And it's just arrived!  Day ahead of schedule, although after some weirdness with FedEx saying it was delivered when it wasn't.

How funny / coincidental, I had the same issue with FedEx on my Ecowitt order. I got a successful delivery message whilst I was waiting for it to arrive. Lucky the delivery guy turned up soon after. Expect he was trying to meet his KPIs. But still...

I've heard people say that the shippers try and add extra charges on delivery which can be contested.  But at what point?  Do I have to cough up and then argue with Fedex by email?  Or do I tell the driver I'm not paying up (as I snatch the package from him..)  \:D/

I didn't have any extra charges.  Just the basket price from the Ecowitt site.

The delivery weirdness was that FedEx tracking said due by 1200.  That changed at 1155 to say Delivered, and the Tracking Report said it was signed for by someone with a name similar to but spelt differently to mine.  Much swearing and I assume it's gone to the wrong addess and it'll be another 2-3 months to get another.  Couldn't get FedEx on the phone, obviously, but eventually during an online text support chat at around 1300 while the bloke was saying he would escalate - it arrived!

No uniform, plain white van, no scanning or tracking device.  I asked if he was FedEx and he said he "was helping a driver out".

So I take it the FedEx driver scans some parcels and marks as delivered within the due time.  He then gives these to a mate to deliver for cash to help him complete his quota for the day.  However if the mate then delivers one of those to the wrong address you're knackered as on the system it's marked as delivered/signed for.  First time I've ever experienced that.

That sounds well suspect by the Fed-ex driver IMHO!

As for customs levy and 'handling' fee that sometimes arrives by letter a week or so later.

i recommend you challenge the handling fee, I did successfully

From my point of view FedEx's contract is with the supplier not the customer so any handling fees should be included in the shipping fee Ecowitt has quoted and charged you

AIUI you should only need to pay duty which for met sensors/equipment should be zero

https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/9015802000#import

Ecowitt should be registered with HMRC for VAT and should have charged that as part of your invoice

I have had the FedEx tracking number from Ecowitt this morning and it is showing up on the FedEx website as delivery by noon on the 30th March, lets hope there are no delays.

How do I find my invoice as my account only shows the order priced in USD, did you get an invoice from Ecowitt showing VAT paid?

I only had the shopping cart price which didn’t show any mention of tax or shipping.

I asked Lucy about VAT, whether they paid at source:

“ Please note that we'll not be responsible for any tax might be generated in your country or customs, which has been stated on our website.”
