Davis Vantage Pro 2......Repair or replace
« on: May 05, 2025, 02:18:02 PM »
I have a Vantage Pro 2 which is now 14 years old. After many years of great service, the temp./humid. sensor went bad on the unit, I am trying to decide whether I replace the whole unit with the new display they offer or invest $70.00 into my old unit, thinking at this age it's only a matter of time before other sensors will start to go. Thanks in advance

There's no good answer to this I'm afraid - you'll get recommendations to do both I'm sure. Replacing just the T/H sensor is obviously far and away the cheaper option but yes on a 2011 vintage VP2 some of the other sensors are probably on borrowed time by now and will need replacing sooner or later. You actually have at least 3 options (as well as getting the ISS serviced by Davis if they still offer that service) in replacing either:

1. Just the T/H sensor
2. Only the ISS and continue to use the old console
3. The complete station including console.

Don't forget that assuming you have a wireless VP2 then you would be able to use both the old and new consoles in parallel.

Sorry, but I don't usually have time to help with individual issues by email unless you are a Prodata customer. Please post your issue in the relevant forum section here & I will comment there if I have anything useful to add.

One of the benefits of the VP2 is that it's possible to fix it yourself very inexpensively, if you know what's failing of course.  I'd fix it for $70 if you think you have the ability to do so.

Contact Davis support and see what they charge for refurbishing the unit—historically they have done a great job, for a fair price, for this service. If you get a complete new unit including the 6313 console, please understand you can no longer upload your pws data directly from your console to WeatherUnderground, CWOP, etc., if that is important to you. There are workarounds for this issue, but it requires paying Davis a subscription fee.

Davis VP2 with SHT31 (3 complete VP2 systems—2 with a daytime fan and 1 that has a 24 hour fan); CWOP--CW5020, FW3075 and FW4350; WU--KILWHEAT17, KILWHEAT36 and KILWHEAT39; WeatherCloud.net; CoCoRaHS--IL-DP-132; and Weatherlink 2.0

However the uploads can be done through Weatherlink.com free basic account, albeit at 15 minute interval, or at 5-min interval with the Pro paid account.

Enjoy,

I'm currently repairing mine. I'm purchasing individual parts. Cheaper than a complete new system

But remember also that you can easily use an existing legacy console in parallel with a new 6313 console and continue any existing data uploads that way and so get the best of both worlds (for wireless VP2 systems only of course) .

Could also simply replace the ISS only with a 6322/6327/6323/6328 etc and forget the 6313 all together

Yes, that was my option 2 in my initial reply!
