How to: Ecowitt PWS upload data to Windy
« on: May 04, 2025, 02:49:52 AM »
I have tried the wiki information and in all honesty I have come away more confused than before.

Is someone able to point it out in steps what I need to start with and then how to get it to work together.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but do I need a third party application for Ecowitt to talk to windy? If so is there ways to do it free without additional resources?

I also have Wunderground working and reporting of that helps or not.

I have created the API/station via windy and also on Ecowitt. I just don't know how to get them to talk.

Cheers

That's exactly what I tried to follow like I said and like I also said, I ended up more confused that I was before I tried, lol.

I pretty much need it explained to me in the most laymen's terms as possible.

I have found the easiest way is to use Cumulus Mx to manage weather services uploads, it acts as a sort of hub

Once you have CMX set up you can go to stations.windy.com to register your station and obtain an API key

Copy and paste this key into CMX settings/third party uploads/windy

Sorted

You can use CMX to feed other services like PWS weather, met office WOW etc

Problem is you need CMX running 24/7, but that's true of any data logger.

I run CMX on a PC, a Synology NAS and a raspberry Pi (don't ask why !!),

This was interesting to stumble upon.

I had tried upload to Windy a while back and seemed to have very little success. I think at first it worked from either MB or CMx.

Then it would not from either. Windy picks up my station from MADIS but it is 15 minutes or more delay.

So I did not remember just now if I had ever tried CMx. Obviously I had since the API Key was still there.

I hit enable and it started upload right away. Goes every 5 minutes.

BOOYAH!

My CMx runs on an RPi ZeroW.

I think my latest issue was actually having the wrong key trying to upload straight from WiFi Logger. It might work now, but from CMx looks better as you can include solar data.
