Multiple Webcams with IPTimelapse
« on: May 01, 2025, 10:08:42 AM »
I tried to capture stills from 2 identical webcams (Reolink P330) with IPTimelapse. The first webcam in GUI1 works but I cant capture a still from the second camera in GUI2. I get the message "Image Capture Failed -or- Duplicate image". The IP address of the camera is correct. When I copy it in a webbrowser, I get a still.
I send several emails to the developer but never get an answer.

Any ideas?

Do you have separate folders setup for each camera?  Just so they aren't trying to write to the same folder.

Also, I ran into an issue when I first setup mine.  I was using the @ symbol for a password.  That wasn't friendly with IPTL.  Once I changed my password to the camera, it worked.

One thing you could try is not to use the "Use Login" option.  You can make the login a part of the RTSP string to connect to the camera.

rtsp://User:Password@192.168.3.10  That's the method I'm using.

That was it! I removed [ and { from the password and now it works.
Thank you very much for this hint.

I tried to capture stills from 2 identical webcams (Reolink P330) with IPTimelapse.

I didn't realize IPT allowed multiple cameras. I never thought to set up a second GUI. I had been using a Reolink camera then found Dahua was better for the night sky but I still have the Reolink. Maybe I'll try to add the Reolink and run both cameras.

I'm surprised Mike at IPT hasn't responded to your email. Normally he has replied to me within a day.

I'd have to dig though my emails, but IPTL can not only do 2 cameras, you could stitch them together into a single image.  That way they'd be side by side in one JPG and Video.

One other thing I didn't understand at first.  Ideally you should setup 2 GUI's per each camera if you're making videos.  One GUI is configured for taking the pictures.  Second GUI is for making the video.  Takes a bit more memory.  But runs more reliably.  I had issues off and on of my nightly video not getting made.  Once I made that change, it's worked really well.

I never thought of doing that either. Right now, I probably don't need to. Maybe once every couple of months the video doesn't get created but I backup all the hourly videos in a separate folder and can recreate the daily video with ease. I purchased a mini-PC that's [mostly] dedicated to IPT. It's a Beelink AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS (8 cores 16 threads, 3.2GHz - 4.75 GHz, 16M L3 Cache) integrated with AMD Radeon 680M 12 core 2200 MHz graphics and 24GB DDR5 & 500GB PCIe4.0 SSD. Plenty of processing power, so it seems. I also run GRLevel3 on the PC.

Thanks for the tips. I might just try the two GUIs anyway for fun.

I don't make hourly videos.  But I take pictures every 3 seconds, 24/7.

There have been a couple of clear nights where I got a decent shot of a full moon.  I copied just those pictures into a new folder.  Start a new GUI.  Make a video to just that set of pictures.  Once done, I close the GUI and DON'T save anything.  That way I can make a one off video and not interfere with the regular settings.

Tried to do that for the blood moon.  But it was too cloudy that night.  No good shot of the moon.

Going to make another one soon for summer.  If I can get a clear-ish night for full moon.

So far I've only made videos from sunrise to sunset (30 second interval). There have never been any problems.
I only started using the second camera yesterday, so I don't have any experience yet.

Now I'm trying it with 24-hour recordings. I'm looking forward to seeing how the night shots turn out.

In case anyone wants to do dual camera and one image, use my link, but put a semi colon in between.  Each side pointing to a different camera.
