RainWise MK III Comport error in AM
« on: April 29, 2025, 02:19:57 PM »
Hello All,
I have a Rainwise MK III LR with a CC 3000 since about 2021.
The transmitter and the battery have been replaced in 2023.
Lately, (within the last 4 weeks) I’ve been waking up to a comport error and having to restart Weather View 32.
Running Win10, Intel Nuc.  All other programs work well.
I’ve checked the power settings to make sure nothing is being done to the comport at night.

At times the error persists and I’ve found going into the Rainwise Terminal Test application (used by tech to assist with install) and looking at the drivers for the comport, asking to update drivers (it doesn’t because they are the latest) then asking to connect, it connects.  Then you can run WeatherView32 as Admin for another day.
I’m hoping someone has experienced this or has some idea as to what might be causing the error.
Thanks in advance
Brian

Brian,
USB ports can be cranky at times, I run a lot of SDRs and have unexplained USB errors from windows defender using up 100% of cpu resources, often at night when it thinks you are not using the PC.
I would start with the basics, move to a different USB port, try a different cable and see if that helps.
I have had my CC3000 for many many years and a couple times I have had to use an air duster to blow out the port, how gunk gets in there with a cable blocking the path I will never know.

Thanks Kevin!
I appreciate the help.
We had a cold front push through here yesterday afternoon and power was out the rest of the day.  I will give the connectors some attention.
I had a malware program on the P/C and removed it to see if that helped.
Windows defender has been the cause of other issues on another computer.
I like the MK III and weather view.
I will update when I have some progress.
