USB ports can be cranky at times, I run a lot of SDRs and have unexplained USB errors from windows defender using up 100% of cpu resources, often at night when it thinks you are not using the PC.
I would start with the basics, move to a different USB port, try a different cable and see if that helps.
I have had my CC3000 for many many years and a couple times I have had to use an air duster to blow out the port, how gunk gets in there with a cable blocking the path I will never know.
