Snowfall in Florida - Will this verify? (Winter Storm Enzo)
« on: January 17, 2025, 10:10:27 AM »
My move from Maryland to Florida brought me with expectations: Don't expect any snowfall for a winter season, but I forgot something: It can still happen, you just got to have the right things in place.

I open my local NWS forecast to find: Snow? I didn't immediately get my hopes up. I looked at weather forecast models, they seemed to have agreed that a potential snowfall event could be coming to the Panhandle.

Though this is quite some time out, I am creating this topic to see how the forecast evolves  :-)

Keep us updated on what really does end up happening in your neck of the woods! Always neat to see cold weather dip as far south as it has a couple times now this winter.

We're finally expecting some snow here in Central Maine, followed by plenty of cold air like we have been seeing all winter. We've been in a significant snow drought this winter with more snow falling down in the southern US than here in our area. We typically average about 100" of snow per winter season. So far this season we've only received 20", and we've spent most of the winter with no snow on the ground whatsoever. We've had no shortage of cold (though today was an exception with a high temp reaching 40F), but we've just had no coastal storms this far north. They've all been south of here.

Thankfully we are finally expecting a light to moderate snowstorm (by Maine standards) to start within a couple hours and lasting all night (4" - 8"). We need it!

Best,

The first Winter Storm Warning in 7 years was issued for our area this morning. Current forecast is 1-3 inches. The last 1 inch snowfall for Pensacola alone was on January 28th 2014. over 10 years ago.

The most snowfall ever recorded in this area was just 2.3 inches in 1954. This will be the first time a "good" snowfall has fallen in this area in a very long time.

Not to mention the bitter cold incoming for our area.

It sounds exciting to anticipate snow in the Florida Panhandle! Keep monitoring the NWS and local updates, and if the snowfall happens, make sure you’re prepared with warm layers and essentials

Will do! And apparently this is your first post! Welcome to the forums.

Snow has been falling for hours, including constant instances of blowing snow, putting us under blizzard conditions.
6" was measured on the snow stick, and it is STILL snowing.

Winter Storm Enzo will be a very historic storm, and we are living through it right now.

Amazing! And yet here in Central Maine we haven’t had more than 6” of snow in one storm yet this season! A significant snow drought here but amazing to see what you’re getting down there! It was however -12F this morning here and will probably be -15F to -20F tonight. 🥶

Enjoy the snow as much as you can! It could be a long time before something like this happens again! And while you’re at it send some of that snow north would ya?

In Florida were the stores, like Walmart, unbelievably crowded before the snow started?  In Stillwater one winter around 10 or so years ago there was a very rare blizzard warning issued.  I walked into Walmart and couldn't believe the sight.  All registers in the store were actually manned and lines short.  It was probably more memorable than the blizzard itself.

I didn't get any updates on the Walmart (or any pharmacies in the area), but I know parts of SR-87 SR-98, and I-10 were closed, so that may have affected nearby shopping centers.

Also, a NWS Employee in Milton, FL reported a final total of 10". This city still holds the all time record for the most snowfall in Florida!

10" inches of snow would be an all time record amount for most winter days in central Oklahoma.
