Hey Chief - yes, a strong, fast-moving thunderstorm moved through our area this evening dumping 1.27 inches of rain. Thankfully no hail or wind damage, at least in our neighborhood.

Here is a photo (not mine) being circulated on social media of an ominous-looking shelf cloud which moved through our area last evening.  There were reports of trees uprooted, hail, and power outages in some locations, along with a report of a top wind gust of 61 mph.

The Oklahoma panhandle had a 1000-year rainfall event Tuesday night.  KFOR Weatherman Mike Morgan said a 1000-year rain in Oklahoma City would amount to 18 inches.

I assume it's because the central Oklahoma panhandle gets only 19 inches of precipitation a year vs 36 inches for Oklahoma City.  A least a couple of places in the panhandle got around 10 inches of rain.

I assume it's because the central Oklahoma panhandle gets only 19 inches of precipitation a year vs 36 inches for Oklahoma City.  A least a couple of places in the panhandle got around 10 inches of rain.

Quite the range in precipitation across the state.

For those of us living in the Midwest, including the Chicago area, we experienced an onslaught of cicada bugs this year. Cicadas come out of the ground every 11 or 17 years, depending on the brood, make a bunch of noise, mate, lay their eggs, then die off in about 4 weeks after emerging from the ground. Fortunately for me and others nearby, the 4 week span is now concluding. Apparently the number of bugs was worse than the event 11 or 17 years ago, and guess what? The mainstream national “news” media—CNN, NBC, et al, attribute this situation to none other than global warming. Talk about a bunch of hogwash—this is high on the list.

After four years of drought....Minnesota is actually not wanting rain. But we wont get a choice.

The North Shore of Lake Superior has had a lot of rain. Rivers and falls are crazy, places under water.

Towns in the SE part of the state are having issues.

Go figure. I have turned on my sprinklers to  test them, I may not need them this year. So it will be 60 to blow them out. (minor issue-compared to what others are going through)

That photo looks similar to the severe warned storm that went through Stillwater late Tuesday evening. The storm initially formed to the north of Stillwater.  I thought it would miss Stillwater and head southeast for Tulsa.  But soon later it clouded over, and I started hearing thunder.  I figured I was wrong.   Fortunately, I wasn't in the most severe part of the storm, so no severe weather here but at least the rainfall was decent.  It rained 1.15".

But the worst part of the storm was the west part of it which severely affected Oklahoma City as it moved south. The storm had flared up in intensity shortly before entering OKC.   KOCO-5 of OKC had a wind gust to 85 mph while covering the weather on air. From video, it looked like a hurricane going through the station parking lot! Damon Lane, KOCO's chief meteorologist called it as one of the worst non-tornadic storms he has ever covered. 

These storms had been in Kansas from the previous nights. So, I guess it was Oklahoma's turn tonight.  About 50,000 power outages in OKC from the storm and probably still counting.  Lane worried over the heat index on Wednesday being over 115 degrees. It will be hell on earth if your power is still out tomorrow afternoon.  I can only count my blessings from this awful storm not adversely affecting me at all.

They surely had their 1000 year rain.  And then that dam that is in pretty bad shape in Minnesota.

We will be expecting armageddon in the Chicago area around 2:00 am tomorrow morning, oceans of boiling water and hyper-hurricanic winds. It also looks like it might continue for the next few days, if there will be anything left.

It bypassed Oklahoma, except for the southeast part where it rained 2 to 4 inches.

At the other side of the state, I only noticed a few sprinkles from it on my car's front windshield.

Spoke with my brother in Houston area today, they still have no power. Luckily he had a couple gas generators but finding gas is also an issue. Many stations are out or closed, so they travel 80 miles round trip to fill gas cans. His next big purchase will be a backup generator on natural gas. Been thinking about putting one in myself, except using propane.
Here it's not as big an issue in the summer, our heat index isn't 105+ every day, but a winter blizzard outage can be bad with no heat.
