Mounting Senors near anntena
« on: July 17, 2008, 11:26:28 PM »
I am trying to plan out where I want to mount my Boltek sensor and I have a good place for it. The question I have is they say don't mount it near metal. Well just how far away does it need to be from metal and how much metal nearby will cause interference?

This is generally how my station is mounted. I have since changed it a little bit but what I am trying to point out is the antenna on the right. That is where it is still mounted and I have the anemometer mounted directly across from it on the other side of the center pole and raised everything higher a little bit. What I was wanting to do was bring another PVC section off the back of the center post and mount the Boltek there. Would that be to close to the antenna or would that cause interference being that close or am I good?

-Thanks

Boltek recommend that the antenna should be mounted above any metal structures.

I've got two Boltek antennas (one for the LD-250 and one for the StormTracker) which are mounted within 6' of each other and I haven't had any strange problems.

The best way to mount the antenna is to use PVC pipe and use either nylon screws or cable ties.  I would mount it as high as possible without making it a lightning conductor (if it's outside)!
