'Password system problem?
« on: July 05, 2011, 02:10:52 PM »
I cleared ALL my passwords off my PC and got a new one for wxforum. I used it once with no problem, since the change, and now when I log on, it shows 'invalid password' which forces me to re-enter the new password? This has not been the first time.     Jack

If you ever checked the 'remember me' checkbox when you logged in, then the forum software will put a cookie in your browser to remember your userid/password combo and offer it up first to the forum.

Try clearing the cookies for wxforum.net from your browser, then your fail/reenter password should work without the fail first :)

Best regards,
Ken

Where do I find the 'remember me' checkbox on wxforum?

Thanks,

It's in the login page.  Use the logout link, then the login link to see the page and option.

Then it's not like most 'remember me' that you can log out but when you return it remember's your password and only requires a click to log back in?

Sorry, I misremembered the exact syntax.. Sam's post above has the correct image of the page involved.  It's "Keep me logged in" that sets a cookie on your browser with your wxforum.net credentials.

Thanks Sam for finding and posting the correct image :)

Best regards,
Ken

Hi Jack,

Try this:
1) logout of WXforum.net (using the logout link at the top menubar).
2) clear your browser password cache for any entries for wxforum.net
3) clear your browser cookies for any entries for wxforum.net
4) click on the logon link for WXforum.net
5) enter your username and password and tick the "Always stay logged in" checkbox.
6) press the login button

Then you shouldn't be troubled with invalid password rejects again.  Keep in mind, this is only for PCs that YOU have sole control over (never for a public PC, and not recommended for a Family PC).

Hope this helps, and best regards,
Ken

Hi Ken    Yup, I've done that 3 times today and nothing changes, still having the problem. Like I said, this is the only web-site it's happening with.    Thanks    Jack

That is vexing!  It looks like something is caching somewhere, so I'd suggest a modification to the procedure:

1) logout of WXforum.net (using the logout link at the top menubar).
1a) close the tab having WXforum.net displayed
1b) clear the browser disk cache
2) clear your browser password cache for any entries for wxforum.net
3) clear your browser cookies for any entries for wxforum.net
3a) close the browser
3b) open the browser and go to wxforum.net
4) click on the logon link for WXforum.net
5) enter your username and password and tick the "Always stay logged in" checkbox.
6) press the login button

Jack and Ken,

I have never been able to save the password on the WxForum login using Chrome.  I have always had to input the password to be able to log in if I logged out.  Now I just always stay logged in.

FWIW

An excellent program for maintaining passwords is LastPass https://lastpass.com/

I've been using it for over a year now, and highly recommend it!  8-)

I have not had to put my password into wxforum on my three main pc's in years. Occasionally on the laptop if i am in an 'in private' session I get prompted, but then I just close and go back to a normal session.
