An equalizer would just be a multi-bandpass type of filter... I think... it's been a long time since I built speakers and looked at crossovers...

You've got a set of 8 frequencies, which you can boost or attenuate. If they are close enough together, adjacent ones would interact with each other.

Maybe the best way to visualize it is by running Winamp, with it's equalizer. It's a 10-band, and by playing with the sliders, you can see the effects and interactions.

It might be easier visually and conceptually to use an equalizer filter instead of the VST plugin... it's just another filter, so I would expect the performance to be similar...

I have created a new version to test.

This version has an 18 Band EQ.

This might prove to be easier to understand than the high/low filter.

Let me know if you like this version better.

I installed it at lunch time...

It now uses more CPU, but I would expect the extra signal processing to do that...

I managed to change the character of the sound, but I don't know if it's really better... I was listening through my surround sound home theater system (no speaker in the PC)...

More testing tonight...

At least the equzlizer makes intuitive sense... at least to me...

I agree, the EQ makes more sense as well.

Hopefully I will be able to contact all of the current NWS stream owners and get them to use it as well.

BTW - If you rename (or delete) the "KarmaFX Equalizer.dll" file in the Oddcast directory, the EQ will not be loaded when Oddcast stand alone starts. This might be useful for people that need to reduce CPU load to a minimum.

Thanks.

I'll install it right now and give it a try. Not saying it will do much, since at the moment, my signal/sound is pretty crappy. Will work on that once the snow is gone and mud season passes. Need to relocate my antenna.

I am using the filter and am quite pleased with the improved signal.  I may try the equalizer again, but am not sure where to start.  If someone could provide a screen shot of a good setup to get me started, that would be greatly appreciated.

Also, has any progress been made toward saving the settings between sessions?

Thanks.  Jim
