Newbie Hardware
« on: February 05, 2022, 11:43:46 AM »
Hey Guys just found the WX Weatherstation.
Do i really need a weatherstation from the stock?
Or is it possible to build something DIY like
Raspberry Pi with sensors hooked to it
or a ESP8266 (Wemos or something) with sensors ?
I plan to display the weather together with a webcam on a website like:
foto-webcam.eu

It's definitely possible to go the DIY route. You just have to make sure the sensors are calibrated. The cheaper the sensor, the more I'd be concerned about accuracy.

I'm afraid I don't have anything useful to share. While DIY solutions can be cheaper, they also tend to require a good bit of time which is something I don't have much extra of.

Personally, I use David hardware. However, there are tons of people very happy with the more affordable Fine Offset (Ecowitt, Friggin, etc) offerings.

There is a fair bit of work being done with SDR and WeeWx. Search the forum and you will find info. I've not checked it out but I know its there.
