Radiation sheilds in Eu?
« on: October 06, 2021, 01:17:15 AM »
Planning an setting up a Froggit (Ecowitt) weather system - but as Froggit don't have radiation shields... I'm now in need for suggestions.

I don't need any 100% fine, just sufficient for home use.
I've tried searching on German amazon with no luck...

So from where in EU could one get at acceptable prices some usable radiation shields for temp and lightning sensors.
(I live in Finland, so delivery here would be fine. But have good friends in Germany who can re-route a packet to me if needed)
Ecowitt:
  • GW1102 Wi-Fi Weather Station with Solar Powered Wireless Anemometer, UV & Light Sensor, Self-Emptying Rain Collector
    • GW1100 Ecowitt Wireless Weather Station Gateway
    • WS68 Wireless Solar Powered Anemometer with Light & UV Sensor
    • WH40 Wireless Self-Emptying Rain Collector Rainfall Sensor
    • Outdoor Temperature and Humidity Sensor
  • WH31 Multi-Channel Temperature and humidity Sensor (8 pcs)
  • WH51 Wireless Soil Moisture Sensor
  • WH45 Indoor CO2 PM2.5 PM10 Temperature and Humidity 5-in-1 Air Quality Sensor
  • WH57 Outdoor Wireless Lightning Detection Sens

Personally I use a Davis 7714 in combination with a WH32-EP (SHT35) and I am very happy.
These are tricky to get hold of in Europe and I bought mine on black Friday via the US Amazon.com and had it shipped to the UK which added a lot to its price.
Since I bought the Davis radiation shield other options have become available.

For those with Deep pockets there is the Barani Meteoshield - Extremely good but expensive
The other alternative is the MetSpec Rad 02 which you can read about here

Dont use the RS0001!
Its not very good (I am being polite) and you will be wasting your money.

The Metspec seems to be very highly regarded as middle of the road as is the Davis radiation shields.
However the gold standard is the Barani Meteoshield but you will need quite a lot of money for that

thx for the warning and yes, have read them....

But as I have the outside temp&humidity on the north facing wall I'm not requiring much solar protection need from the RS0001 - it's more to protect from all the other stuff, like rain. (My Lacrosse with an much worse protection worked very well in same place for years...)

The WS 57 lightning detector is also inside a RS0001 inside it's plastic bag and I'm not too concern if late evning sun reaches it.

It also comes down to what you need - and as in my case I don't need protection from sun I don't see having the RS0001 as a major problem...

But I do agree - now seen the RS0001 unit...  I would not recommend it for protection shield in a sunny place.

I use it as a weather shield too as my wh32 is on a north facing wall and never gets sunshine

Agree with previous posts. An affordable option is the Davis 7714. The Barani Meteoshield Pro is the best passive one out there I am aware of.

You can check https://weerhuisje.nl for the Davis shield. Believe they ship to the EU.

Strike that, delivery to Finland is insanely expensive.

OK fair enough if that's all you need it for is to provide some limited rain protection then yes agree that does make economic sense to use it.
