First hailstorm of the season right on Easter Monday In Northern Italy

In some towns in Northern Italy it was necessary to use shovels to clear the streets of hail. Well, I would say that for being at the 45th parallel of northern latitude, all of this is quite unusual for it to be April 1st

How common are hail storms like that there or even in the rest of Europe.  Here in the middle of the USA we get to thinking that kind of weather is unique to here.
