I noticed both my feeds to video1.getstreamhosting.com stopped working yesterday.

This morning, I checked my control panel for the services and both said 'Terminated' ... wtf??

I used online chat with support

| 07.08.2020 10:38:33 | Guest 7681: video1.getstreamhosting.com server is not responding. Both of my Radio streams are marked 'Terminated'. Have you cancelled the service??
| 07.08.2020 10:40:27 | Andi Cocei: Hello, please provide me with your email address.
| 07.08.2020 10:41:38 | Guest 7681: [redacted]
| 07.08.2020 10:45:40 | Andi Cocei: Free accounts are now set to automatically terminate after 3 months but can be re-oped upon request. Please provide me with the former station ports so we can re-assign them.
| 07.08.2020 10:47:06 | Guest 7681: 8746 and 8756
| 07.08.2020 10:50:34 | Andi Cocei: Please check now.
| 07.08.2020 10:58:12 | Guest 7681: ok.. 8746 is back. I have to reconfigure for the 8756 stream. Will these expire again in 3 months?
| 07.08.2020 11:00:28 | Andi Cocei: Yes, this was implemented for server maintenance and can not be disabled, you can contact us ahead of the 3 months in order to reset the timer on your services however.
| 07.08.2020 11:02:23 | Guest 7681: Ok, that's a bit annoying, but I'll set a calendar reminder to contact you before the next expiration. That 3-month life should appear somewhere when we sign up for the free radio stream... Thanks for your help.
| 07.08.2020 11:04:41 | Andi Cocei: It does now appear on the free service sign-in page and we have also sent an email to all of our clients when this was implemented.
| 07.08.2020 11:05:50 | Guest 7681: Sigh.. I must have missed the email. When was this implemented?
| 07.08.2020 11:06:58 | Andi Cocei: It was implemented towards the first third of last month.
| 07.08.2020 11:08:21 | Guest 7681: Ok, so implemented in July, 2020. Thanks again for your help.

So.. the upshot is that starting early July, 2020, they automatically EXPIRE free radio feeds.  You can avoid the hassle by contacting support (before they expire again) to reset the timer for expiration.  Sigh.. I've set a calendar reminder to do that.
Free (after the $5 fee) doesn't mean eternal afterall.

No, you don't have to pay an additional fee.. just contact via chat or mail their tech support to have them reset the timer to reactivate your feeds (and set a calendar reminder to do that every 85 days or so).

Thanks, Ken!

I was tearing my hair out because I lost my best stream yesterday, and no amount of changing power supplies and rebooting my RasPi that feeds it would restore it!

I just completed a chat with getstreamhosting's tech support, and he graciously renewed my streams for another 90 days.  However, my RasPi stream that was terminated, the RasPi stream, apparently now has a new port, 8144, and it isn't connecting.  The alternate stream, 8822, is connecting just fine and wasn't terminated.

How do I fix the RasPi stream?

You have to change the /etc/darkice.cfg file for the new port (and credentials if needed), then reboot your pi.
Check /var/log/darkice.log to make sure no errors are indicated there.  If your new SSL port is 8144, what's the full mountpoint for the stream and I'll correct it in noaaweatherradio.org master file.

The full mountpoint is 162.244.81.53:8144

Thanks, Ken!

https://video1.getstreamhosting.com:8144/ status shows no stream yet..  Let me know when you've finished the darkice config and the stream is running..
Thanks,

You likely have a new submit port, and a new password for it.  Use the stream control panel to view the settings needed.
I had to change my stream upload passwords in darkice and Edcast (for my other stream) after the 'renewal' by getstreamhosting tech support.

I see the stream is up.. I've updated noaaweatherradio.org with the new port/mountpoint 8144/WXM20.mp3 for your primary stream.

Don't forget to drop the 8770/WXM20.mp3 from QA monitoring and sign up the 8144/WXM20.mp3 feed instead.

Unfortunately, change the port/mountpoint means you'll lose your star until the QA system evaluates your revised feed.

My RasPi stream keeps going offline, most likely due to a worn out wall-wart power supply.  I have new ones on order (one should arrive today) since none of the 'spares' I have on hand work either.  Also worn out, I think.  Rebooting via PuTTY and power-cycling the RasPi aren't working right now. :-(

It wasn't just the power supply.  I ordered a complete new setup in order to replace parts; however, the new power supply didn't do the job.  BUT when I swapped out my NooElec R820T2SDR NESDR Mini2+ for the new one, voila!  The old one was very warm, and I'm fairly sure that as it aged it became less and less capable and more and more power hungry until it finally just died.  Meanwhile I suspect it was taxing power supply after power supply beyond their limits.

mine just went down for this reason. I really don't want to chat with them ever 85 days. Does anyone else use a  hosting company that I can pay for a year?

Good news...

I contacted, via chat, the getstreamhosting support to reset the auto-expire timer for my streams.

They now say that they have discontinued the auto-expire process so your streams will no longer expire after 3 months.

Quote
| 31.10.2020 14:32:31 | Guest 5681: I'd like to keep the existing port numbers and servers for the streams, and reset the 3-month timeout on them.
| 31.10.2020 14:36:34 | Ionita Laurentiu: Your ports are safe. Your plans won't expire anymore.
| 31.10.2020 14:39:51 | Guest 5681: Oh, that's good news. Is this a global change in your policy for the SSL stream hosting?
| 31.10.2020 14:41:07 | Ionita Laurentiu: That's correct.
| 31.10.2020 14:44:04 | Guest 5681: Excellent! I'm glad you have reconsidered the auto-expire. One less thing stream providers have to worry about. When the policy was first implemented, there were a lot of gripes about it and folks required to contact you and in many cases get new ports assigned. Lots of extra work for both stream providers and your support staff. Thanks for discontinuing the auto-expire!
| 31.10.2020 14:45:12 | Ionita Laurentiu: Glad to to hear that. You are very welcome!
| 31.10.2020 14:47:34 | Guest 5681: thanks for your support! Bye

What?? I was just on chat a few minutes ago.  The guy didn't mention anything.

Well, here's to hoping that is actually true...
