Firefox 2.0 -- the web developer's handy tool
« on: November 21, 2006, 09:40:41 PM »
I posted some of this on other forums/threads, but thought you might find these tools as useful as I have for developing/testing the website, and safe/effective browsing.

All are plugins for Firefox browser ( http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ )

Essential for developers:

Web Developer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/60/
(the Swiss-army-knife of useful developer tools)

Firebug: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1843/
 (the essential JavaScript debugging console)

Browsing safety:

NoScript: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/
 (selectively enable JavaScript by website)

Netcraft toolbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1326/
(see risk rating, site ranking ISP, and country of origin for website)

Usability enhancers
Download Statusbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/26/
 (makes downloads painless with status)

PDF Download: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/636/
(lets you choose what to do with PDF.. download? Open? etc.)

Tabbrowser Preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/158/
(gives extra config options for the browser webpage tabs)

Weather related:

ForecastFox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/398/
(toolbar gets Accuweather forecast/conditions/radar)

Thanks for the post, but I'll just have to do without that plugin - AccuWx no longer has my popularity vote, thanks to their many (but failed :) ) attempts to run the NWS into the ground.

I'm not fond of their tactics either.  The ForecastFox plugin originally used weather.com as the data source, but switched a while back to using (not necessarily aptly named) Accuweather instead.

I don't visit the Accuweather website directly (only get data displayed on a toolbar) and have a 1-mouseover button to view animated west-coast regional radar.

It provides another data point for the forecast, and doesn't take much real-estate.   Like all Firefox addons, you can easily try it and if you don't like it, remove it :-)

Too bad nobody makes an addon that could hook to a PWS like ours..

Best regards,
Ken

Bonus points for naming the movie from which the music for the video was taken.
