Two wind storms and a former weather radar dome
« on: January 23, 2009, 09:35:47 PM »
Two wind storms in December and the Reno weather radar is off line: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/rev/current/KRGXDomeFailure.pdf

This weather radar dome is about 30 miles northeast of me.  During the first storm, I clocked a 55 mph gust on only a 12-foot high mast (it is primarily intended for ET wind measurments so it isn't taller).  A nearby RAWS weather station measured a 79 mph gust on a 10m mast.

People always talk about the weather, but they never do anything about it.  Not me.  I'm gonna measure it.  https://www.tceweather.com

I beleive there was a second dopler that was damaged because of the high winds west of the Reno radar also. Not as bad, but the dome had heavy damage.
