7 minutes of straight Thunder.
« on: November 30, 2008, 01:37:21 PM »
I was sitting at the computer and checking the weather during a storm one day a few years ago and having a good time listening to the thunder. One of the claps of thunder didn't seem to end and it went on for a good 7 minutes. Has anybody ever experienced this?

do you have alot of hills around you (to keep on echoing the sound)
also I find that colder air creates louder thunder as well

About a minute was tops for me.
Sounds like there were a lot of consecutive strikes.

I live in Colorado, but I wasn't close to the hills. It wasn't really very cold, It was probably in the 70's. After a while it did sound like a bunch of consecutive strikes. The thunder sounded sort of distant, at least a mile away or so. I have heard sometimes tornadoes can generate lightning like this but there wasn't any severe around?

The only time I can remember anything remotely close to that time was during a severe storm back in June of 97. It was freak in nature from all angles and had almost continuous lightning with thunder lasting a little over a minute.. Nothing near the 7 minutes you experienced but for here that was a record I believe..

Next day when I made it to one of the radio sites I could understand it all much clearer :)
