In this thread provide a site that you feel deserves credit for being chosen the featured website for fall 2006.

Thanks.

September?

Might as well go with November at this point...

Glad to hear we're doing this again.  I always enjoyed reading about some of my fellow weather enthusiasts.

I nominate Emmet's River City Weather.net.
Just an excellent site in my opinion. Great layout, tons of info, nice interface etc.
This site may have been nominated or won in the past, I'm not sure since its been so long that we did this.

I think it would be good to remind folks of the guidelines that Gary had used for the nominations:

Quote
Please list your nominations in this thread - it certainly can't hurt for you to describe why you think your nomination is deserving of this honor.

Don't forget that it is perfectly OK to nominate someone who has been nominated in the past but was not selected! We've had some very deserving nominees, and close runoffs!

Some criteria to consider when making nominations:

The visual attractiveness of the site
Ease of navigation
Quality and quantity of useful or interesting information
Educational value
Distinctiveness

While not a hard and fast rule, sites that only use the unmodified default web page template that comes with the software, while useful and absolutely useful and functional, may not cross into that next level to warrant featuring in this manner.

Best regards,
Ken

You know, I can't remember most of our previous winners/nominees either.  Do we have (or can we compose) a list?

Funny you should ask....

I've been mining the Google archives of the old forum in cache, and I'll be posting Gary's writeups on the previous winners soon.

Meanwhile, here's what I could find about the prior honorees:

2005 August  -  lighthouseweather.com
2005 Septermber - loganvillageweather
2005 October - weatherbus.com
2005 November - oldlineweather.com
2005 December - Tawas Bay

2006 January - St. James City, Fla (anole)

2006 April - Capeweather.com
2006 May - beamsville ca

I couldn't find anything before August 2005, and the cache didn't have the last in-progress poll when weatherforum.net went offline suddenly .. if someone has info before Aug 2005 or remembers what happened for Feb, Mar 2006, or what was the polling for June 2006.. please PM me with the details.

I've also captured pages with most of the final polls for the above (and the runoffs where needed).. I'll digest that and post it later.

Meanwhile.... folks should troll about and see what member sites they like, just try to nominate some that haven't been honored (lately) :-)

Ken

Thanks,
Ken

I'd like to nominate Tom's (carterlake) website http://www.carterlake.org/ for consideration.

Tom's site has been up since August, 2005 and undergone a tremendous metamorphosis during the time.  His templates are the stock multi-page template for WeatherDisplay websites.

His experimentation with PHP brought multiple useful scripts (NOAA forecast, WU Radar in particular) that are used on many enthusiasts websites.  His later work with Boltek scripts and GRLevel3 radar have allowed many to add these features to their sites too.  His work with Jozeph at Joske-online.be on AJAX allowed WD users to add near-real-time updates to their websites too.

Did I mention that Tom's PHP NOAA forecast script (along with Anole's wxsticker script) were the chief learning tools I'd used to try my hand at PHP too.. thanks Tom for freely sharing what you've learned.

Tom also has multiple pages on his site to explain how things work (the Boltek one is my favorite).

His site is well organized, easy to navigate and informative!

Best regards,
Ken

Thought we were just taking nominations at this point... but it seems we're all pretty much in agreement on who should win for November.  Might as well start thinking about who else to nominate for December?

Actually we're taking nominations for the Fall season. Instead of monthly, we are going to do seasonal, once every 3 months, so keep making suggestions.

Oh geesh... thanks folks.

I'm going to (re?) nominate Ken at Saratoga Weather: http://saratoga-weather.org

Ken has done a tremendous job on his site in both design and with PHP. If you look at his "about" information, the site has really evolved since just earlier this year.

He also has some really cutting edge stuff with bouy information, earthquake information, live AJAX information, and shares what he has learned on his PHP page.

I see he's got that GRLevel3 radar up and running too.

On top of that Ken's helped keep Wxforum.net alive through some tough ISP/domain name issues and has encouraged folks to come on back after the big crash.

Kudos to Ken!

Davis VP2 6153; Weather Display (LIVE w/ Ajax); Quickcam for Notebooks Pro; Boltek w/ Nexstorm; GRLevel3; live NOAA Radio

  Wow Tom, I'm honored by your nomination.  As I'd said before on the old weatherforum, without you and Anole to inspire me, I would still have a simple 1-pager website.  Your freely shared code and design ideas illustrated just how much more could be done to present useful weather (and related ) information and those examples are what got me started on the PHP treadmill :-)

Thanks and best regards,
Ken

Wow!! Not sure what to say, other than Thanks for the nomination Ocala!

I have to nominate Tom's site www.carterlake.org as well. Without Tom and his help, rivercityweather.net would not be what it is today.... Thanks Tom!! and everyone else who helped me into the PHP world.

Add my nomination carterlake.org also. Tom's hard work, php talents, and creativity have been an inspiration for many of us
