Hi

I have a Lacrosse WS-2305 station - and I have connected it to my dedicated HP laptop thru a Serial to USB connector.

Search for USB to RS232 in Google or Ebay and you will come up with lots of hits.

I suggest you buy a good quality Serial-to-USB connector.

Best regards,

Henrik

Can you post the specific cable, brand and model number, of the one you have.  Not every USB to Serial cable will work.  I have one that works with 2 other devices, but not with Heavy Weather.  I'd like to find one that I know will work for me.  Thanks.

Hi

The one I use I have bought here in Denmark and it works very well.

Here is the link to: http://www.thansen.dk/product.asp?c=1751321472&n=496908102&pn=572895931

It costs about 31 us dollar. (Remember the dollar rate is very low now)

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Henrik

Thanks,

Tom

http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=usb%20serial&origkw=usb%20serial&sr=1  But for a little more than a 1/10 of the price you can get one from dealextreme.com

Prolific type chipsets, Iogear, or Keyspan chipsets seem to be the best adaptor types to use with the lacrosse stations (which do not use standard serial communications)

The WS-23XX series does use normal serial character communications but does rely on DTR and RTS to be functional. Many of the cheap USB to serial adapter do not support the hardware handshaking lines.

The WS-36XX series does use a home brew communication scheme using only the handshaking lines.

My recommendation is to go with the IOGear:

It is pretty rock solid and you never see OS kernel level crashes because of a poorly written Windows driver.

I have used the IOGEAR with no issues on both Windows and Linux (even NSLU2) for my Davis unit.
